A) Most importantly, there's no substantive reason for getting rid of them. Canada doesn't have an issue with semi auto long guns. You don't need more reasons beyond this, but I'll offer a few. B) Culture: There is a huge sporting and hunting culture in Canada that will be directly impacted by banning them. Why ban something as significant as 'hockey' for no reason? There are literally more licensed firearm owners in Canada than hockey players. C) Economics: This community generates billions of dollars every year for the Canadian economy. Culling it will result in far less spending by the community, causing many shops to close and people to lose their jobs, meaning more people on government assistance coupled with a big blow to tax revenue. And the resulting tax payer contributions needed for the government to buy back all these guns will be well into the billions. D) Dangerous non-compliance: Due to the huge number of unregistered guns they are banning, and the baselessness and pure disregard for the community doing so affects, there will be mass non-compliance. This will in turn create many paper criminals out of otherwise upstanding citizens and will lead to numerous unfortunate situations that will wreck lives; again, all over something that does nothing good apart look good in a headline for those who are ignorant of recreational use of firearms and how safe they are in Canada among Canada's most vetted and scrutinized citizens.

They sort of do, but at the same time they don't. It's because they talked about it during last election in 2021, that could very well cost them the majority. Previous Conservative leader O'Toole did try to be center about his policies to attract more Liberal and NDP voters. However, thr Liberals call him out on trying to unbann the "assualt rifles" from 2020 OIC and make it a wedge issue so he had to clarify his stance. But the clarification comments anger various Firearm associations hence making him look like he is wishy washy on their firearm reclassification platform. Bottom line story here, let the party do their job, firearm owners sto panicking and keep raising awareness, and once we have a Conservative majority, then we can undo the damage.

The Liberal lead coalition is under a lot of pressure because of their failed policies on increasing inflation, collapsing of healthcare system, increase food prices, out of control rent and housing affordability. The handgun freeze and the new Bill C21 are basically the salvation moves for the Liberals to score some brownie points from the voters. Even public start to realize this is heavy virtual signalling. Its a playbook, they go after tube fed shotguns next. Have an approved shop weld the tube to 3 rounds or surrender the gun.
