NEW DELHI: Two weeks and ticking: Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is yet to come up with any evidence ref his charge that India was involved in Khalistani extremist Hardeep Nijjar's killing. But as Kanwal Sibal, India's former foreign secretary noted on The Gist, the absence of evidence has not prevented the US, UK and Australia from demanding that India come clean.
In his view, it underscores the deep ties between these countries, ties that go back decades, hardened by two world wars, the Cold War, ethnic and religious affinities and so on. It also reflects unease at the rise of a country that has until now, been a fence sitter internationally, lacking economic muscle and political intent.
While they see the need for India to counter China, and they hope to profit from India's vast market, they would rather the former stay low key and not challenge the existing order which they have dominated for so many years. In that sense, India or Modi pulling off the G20 with no reference to Ukraine in the joint statement, would have annoyed many quarters in Western capitals.
Tune in for more in this conversation with Kanwal Sibal, former foreign secretary.

Mr Kanwal Sibal is spot on and I believe our government is aware of this. We must demonstrate to arrogant western countries that Bharat is a sovereign nation and not anyone’s lapdog. As we grow stronger, more pressure will come from the arrogant west. It’s very important to crush any anti national elements financed by the west.

FATF yes! Won't happen but patriotic Indians should be screaming from the rooftops on every social media platform to name & shame Canada as a "terrorist state", which is escaping the FATF list only because it is White & Anglo - Saxon. Please know that this to be the fundamental foundation that the West operates from. You can talk about multi - culturalism & Sunak & Ramaswamy etc. till the cows come home, but for the Western countries, they are convenient brown sepoys to further the Western agenda of keeping the white races on top.

I agree. It should be patriotic Indian college & university students, who should lead the protests in front of Canadian consulates. Sikhs should be spearheading the protests from Punjab universities. The time for silence from the supposedly fearful "majority Sikhs" is over. "Fearful Sikhs" is an oxymoron in Punjab & even in India; everyone will agree that Sikhs are not helpless victims in Punjab. Sikh victim hood needs to be called out & the SGPC & anyone else, who peddles this fake narrative needs to be named & shamed. NOTHING is STOPPING THE SIKHS IN PUNJAB from showing their TOTAL SUPPORT for INDIA.

For Canada, look at their map, US is both "the West" as well as "the global South", as pointed out by Mr S Jaishankar. Their next neighbor is far away across the Atlantic and far back in the history - UK. And their foreign policy is to keep US happy and UK in-loop. Expecting anything more from them is a little unfair to their mental abilities.

I'm Canadian. I despise Trudeau and wouldn't shed a tear if he got wiped off the face of the earth. That said why should Canada sit back and permit any foreign country to come into its country and assassinate a Canadian citizen? And how do you people not see how a sovereign country such as Canada shouldn't allow this? Do you want the US to start sending assassins in to India to do the same thing? I don't know the politics of this guy Nijjar but the proper thing to do is to extradite him if he's guilty of committing crimes...not just come to a foreign country's shores and take out whoever you want.
@user-commnsense614
@user-commnsense614 8 ай бұрын
@@RobRochon 1) You have no proof India did it, so stop jumping to conclusions. Apparently 'innocent until proven guilty' doesn't apply to others. 2) Canada should stop supporting thugs/criminals (and worse) from using Canadian soil to support subversive activities against India. 'Freedom of speech/expression' isn't a free pass for terrorism. The last time a Canadian government allowed the K-gang to do as it pleased, an Air India flight was bombed (in 1985) and 325+ people (Canadians of Indian origin mostly) died and senior Trudea was PM then I believe. If India was in fact responsible for off'ing this guy, I support India 100%.
@RobRochon
@RobRochon 8 ай бұрын
@@user-commnsense614 in reply...1) the government is investigating this and apparently there was intelligence from other countries communicated to them. So what makes you so sure that this information wasn't provided when you say "there's no evidence"?!?!? That being said I don't necessarily believe much of what comes out of Trudeau's mouth as a general rule either...BUT WHY WOULD HE LIE ABOUT THIS? DO YOU THINK THIS VIRTUE SIGNALING, IDENTITY POLITICS, BLACKFACE MAN DOESN'T COW-TOW TO THE INDIAN VOTERS IN THIS COUNTRY AS A GENERAL RULE??? And Canada wasn't taking actions against India in response to this action but surely Canada has the right to investigate these allegations don't they? Seriously...NOTHING WAS DONE TO INDIA (AT LEAST NOT YET). So why don't you overly emotional snowflakes just calm the fvck down and let them investigate without turning this into WW3. 2) I'm all for not "supporting" terrorist thugs on Canadian soil. But where is this information you are claiming that Canadians support this?!?!? I'm all for shutting down our borders - the massive influx of immigrants to our country is killing the local citizens here. But to suggest that Canada goes out of its way to support terrorism in this case is assinine. However if it turns out that he does - I'll be the first one to drag Trudeau out to the firing squad and have his skull shattered into 10,000 pieces. I already think he and Biden should be shot for supporting this farce of a war in Ukraine. And fyi...there wasn't a SINGLE CANADIAN that wasn't horrified by what happened in that Air India bombing. Again...I have zero love for Pierre Trudeau either but if I recall the bombers were caught and went to prison for their crimes. For you to say that the government let them get away with that is downright stupid.

One keep on hearing that a miniscule proportion of the Sikh community supports Khalistanis. If this is so, then why do they let the terrorists take over their Gurudwaras? They are complicit, is the conclusion one can only draw.
@2168017

Most Sikhs do not go to Gurudwaras frequently and regularly just like most Hindus do not go to temples regularly. So the people who are religiously ultra-conservative end up dominating the gurudwara politics. Even among the Sikh diaspora Separatism is a minority issue albeit a highly vocal one. Only around 150 people turned up in London referendum.

What I didn’t understand, where were all the Sikhs when the Khalistanis were protesting over the last few months? Nice interview, but quite frankly, nothing new here. I would imagine that most of us already knew all this. That said, the one thing India has going for it that even China doesn't, is that India's economy is driven primarily by domestic consumption, so trade wars and sanctions have far less of an impact. Sure, growth might slow down a bit, but it won't grind to a halt. However, countries like the US, the UK and Australia will see their own growths be severely impacted, and they don't want that. So, I would argue that, given all the facts that Mr. Sibal has laid out, the three countries mentioned would rather not rock the economic boat, and that will adversely impact the loyalties they feel for Canada - especially if they feel that Canada has jumped the gun and put them in a difficult situation.

The main problem is that the External Affairs Minister is not ceding the limelight to the Indian news media, which is now more effective in its fact-finding on this situation with Canada. The JNU-educated Jaishankar is completely out of his depths in handling this situation, holding forth in polemics and pontifications in his meetings with U.S. high officials. Jaishankar is unable to engage in precise legally actionable points with the Western governments. Only by questioning the legal foundation of Canada’s state, in view of its weaponization of brazen racial prejudice, that arose from the history of colonial exploitation by White-majority countries, can India safeguard its interests. Similar to South Africa getting ostracized from the international community for its policy of apartheid, India should take up the case of branding Canada as an international pariah. Specifically India should immediately announce its own investigation of the Air India Kanishka bombing in 1985, since it stands to reason that a racially prejudiced White majority Western state could not provide justice to the 329 Canadians of hindu origin killed in the bombing. Particularly, the shocking spectacle of a Canadian prime minister announcing in their parliament that agents of the Indian government killed a Canadian citizen is clear proof of the widespread racial prejudice and disrespect for India’s democracy that is prevalent in Canada. A country with a colonial history of racial prejudice inherited from the British Commonwealth should know the extent of its follies, if it fancies that other White majority countries would come to its aid, when it accused the largest democracy in the world of extra-judicial, trans-national killings.

Beyond, a certain point, this episode will need to be put behind by India. All the research (R&D, patents) take place in West - be that new medicines, arms, energy or agriculture development. India can't even copy or steal like China or is able to buy everything, so India 's dependence on West will not disappear overnight. Canada has been an alternative source to acquire things denied by some countries. It is a role, played by Israel and Russia over the years for India. By grumbling too much, it will come to bite India when it will need to rebuild the same relations. Yes, both India and Canada can live without each other but India should put a halt in ratcheting it up further as India 's need to ship its people in West is not going away. Moreover, by cutting off like this, field will be left open to Pakistan and Khalistan and they will become more emboldened. So, India should cut the slack now.

As mentioned in this and other videos that Western Countries having a mind-set of racial superiority and colonial mind-set are very critical of ever democratic Bharat (India). It is because the West feels threatened and jealous by a rapidly rising Bharat challenging the established supremacy of those countries and societies. While Communistic regimen of China and its hegemonic nature is directly against the territorial integrity of Bharat or her rise as its rival in power in the World. Similarly, Pakistan a failed and terrorist Islamic state continues to put strain on the financial resources, peace and prosperity of Bharat. Avoiding direct warfare every other strategy extensively used by the above mentioned countries and other opportunists to subvert and subdue Bharat. Nevertheless, Bharat a true democracy would continue to work towards her ideal that "the world/cosmos is one home". That would make everyone a winner and united. Patience, persistence and mature diplomacy would eventually resolve all the issues. Barring some hostile elements within this country most citizens of Bharat seem to appreciate the work done by the truly democratic Central Government of Bharat.

I am surprised by the lack of understanding even retired Indian diplomats show about this issue...Canada govt has publicly stated that they have shared the intelligence with Indians. So the ball is in India's court, will they coperate or not? I think it will be better if retired beurocrats start informing people vs trying to be mouthpieces of their govt.

When is Canada going to stop issuing visas to Indians, since India has stopped visas for Canadians? Especially, given that India is doing hit jobs in Canada.
