4:27 the crown thing is called suntiang. It has 2 types, the big one and small one. The big one It use by women on their marriage day. Each region, have their own pattern of suntianng (also with their clothes colours) but the common pattern is like a blooming flower. It a symbol the bride is beautiful n majesty like the flower of their suntiang. The original suntiang for the bride is really heavy, around 5-8 kilogram coz it made from pure gold or iron. It has meaning to remind the bride, even they are looks beautiful n majesty like their suntiang, but there is a heavy responsibility will awaits them as a wife n mother. That why suntiang it looks beautiful yet heavy. But in modern day, people more choose suntiang that made from aluminum, so it more lighter and more comfortable to use during the wedding event. Suntiang from aluminum weight around 3-4 kilogram. For small suntiang, it used by bridesmaid or by traditional dancer. 6:00 all the clothes on this video is modernized of Minang traditional clothes. Each regions in Minang land (west sumatra) they have different style, pattern, and colours. Coz even in general we are get united under Minang race, tribes and principal, but there is have 97 sub-tribes or clan in Minang (plus 9 sub-tribes/clans who lives in negeri sembilan, Malaysia territory. This is why some of our foods, cultures have similarity with some region in Malaysia, like this case in negeri sembilan. Coz lot of minang people lives at there since ancient time (kingdom era). It started from the royal family marriage, our prince get married with a princess at negeri sembilan and then he become a king at there. Then some of our people go to negeri sembilan and build a new clan based on their hometown name in Minang and stay at there until their descendants today. That why in ancient time, Minang and negeri sembilan is consider as one. Until we get colonized by british n dutch and separate the area) So, each regions will have different custom, different culture, different traditional outfit, even language and how to cook their foods (for example, rendang. Is the most popular traditional food from Minang, each region have their own rendang style, slightly different ingridients and how to cook it. So, Rendang on each region, will have their own taste n signature. Such as rendang from padang, pasaman pariaman or we called rendang pasisia, is more spicy with brown-reddish colour. While rendang in bukittinggi, payakumbuh, agam region or rendang darek is more a little bit sweet n savory and the colour is more dark)

In the video, they used a regional language from Sumatra (minangkabau) , so that might be the reason why subtitles are not available. As an Indonesian citizen, I also want to know the meaning of the song being sung but cannot, that's why we use BAHASA INDONESIAN AS THE UNIFIER OF THE NATION🇮🇩🙏

Minangkabau is one of the largest ethnic groups in Indonesia originating from the province of West Sumatra. This land is also called Ranah Minang (The Land of Minangkabau). Currently, there is a major disaster happening in West Sumatra, namely the eruption of Mount some months ago causing Cold Lahar Floods at present. Pray for West Sumatra ❤

Hi Jay. The roof of the traditional Minangkabau houses are made to look like buffalo horns. Centuries ago the Kingdom of Majapahit had planned to invade a Minangkabau kingdom called the Pagaruyung Kingdom. The king of Pagaruyung was a wise man and knew that a war would only bring suffering to the people. He therefore sent his daughter to negotiate with the representatives of the Majapahit kingdom to replace the war with a buffalo fight. Both sides agree and the Pagaruyung Kingdom won the battle. So, minang or in Indonesian menang means victory and kabau or kerbau in Indonesian is buffalo.

Hi Bang Ijay, Orang Minang here,. Anyway, the metal headpieces in the video are called SUNTIANG. The Minangkabau women wear it on traditional ceremonies, especially for weddings. It weighs around 2kg (full set headpiece), and you have to wear it all day long. Trust me!! I wore it years ago. The songs are from popular folk songs in the region. All Minang people understand the language ofc until the first song from on the second vid from the infamous Mentawai Tribe, I have no clue. "Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah" is the main principle of Orang Minang. We costum, tradition, and everything are based on Kitabullah (Al-Quran). Minangkabau means 'Winning Buffalo'... the Tribes in past had this tradition in buffalo fighting, that's why you'll see in style of tradional house's roof will look like a buffalo's horn. also the crown mimicking the buffalo's horn. My mother is originated from Minangkabau, but my father doesnt :D. But the Minang's people follow Matrilineal , yeah so i'm considered as Minang too :D

For why the name is "winning buffalo" , is not just because of a mere buffalo fighting tradition. But from a war story between minang kingdom with Java kingdom. (This story have 2 versions, from tambo version and from historical version. The story is same, but the differences, the timeline of the story and the king figure) i will take from historical version coz it have a clear timeline n who is the king on the history background. The story begin when Java kingdom kingdom from Majapahit want to take over a kingdom in Pagaruyung who led by Adityawarman. Adityawarman's counselor approached the Java king to not solve this matter with war coz its barbaric, beside their king still have family connection (Majapahit king at that time, Jayanegara is a cousin of Adityawarman. Both of their father is from Majapahit. Jayanegara father was the king of Majapahit (Raden wijaya) and Adityawarman's father is a counselor or patih in Majapahit. And both of their mothers is Melayu's princess from Dhamasraya kingdom. Dara Jingga married with the patih and Dara petak married with Raden wijaya. Their sons, Jayanegara inherit Majapahit, Adityawarman inherit his grandfather's kingdom, dhamasraya kingdom. Later, he moved Dhamasraya from middle of sumatra to west sumatra (Pagaruyung). Because Jayanegara's mother is Dhamasraya princess too, that why the officers in Majapahit feel have rights for Jayanegara to owned his grandfather kingdom too. And Jayanegara is a son of Majapahit king, while Adityawarman only a son of patih. With this reason, they argue Jayanegara status is more higher than Adityawarman. It makes Jayanegara have more rights to inherit his grandfather's kingdom than Adityawarman. So Adityawarman's counselor suggested to have buffalo fight instead of war to decide the winner, will have Pagaruyung kingdom. So, Majapahit's side agreed with it. Then, they make a buffalo fight to decide who is the winner. The competition is like David vs Goliath. A baby bull from melayu's side vs a very big bull from Majapahit's side. And the result, the baby bull is winning. And from that moment, they change their tribe name become Minang kabau, to celebrate n commemorate their win against Majapahit invasion without a bloodshed.

In Minangkabau, the sign of a rich person is marked in front of his house with buffalo horns......the more buffalo horns, the richer he is. Because the price of buffalo is very expensive. Could be billions of rupiah
