It’s such a sad reality. Something that the colonizers left was colorism. I remember seeing an ad (poster) for a circus back in our Spanish-colonized era where there is an indigenous person in a cage being referred to as a monkey. Insane.

While it's true that colorism exists in the Philippines, I think Turing was pertaining more to the diversity of what the girls bring to the plate. The cast has pageant/fashion/glam queens, dancers, singers, age-diverse queens, etc.

As for the colorism aspect, my skin was really dark because I spent so much time in the sun, and girls who have darker skin were definitely not as praised as the girls with lighter skin 😭

Yes Nina there is colourism in Asia in general. In the Phillipines it is so hard to find normal body soap (almost all contains bleach). Yes, bleach because of the colourism issue. People wants to appear whitter to feel more included in society.
