In 1992 we been there, our friends from Montreal been so nice to us to take us to this Church were we seen all the waking sticks left behind by the people been healed ( min 6.33 ), and than other nice seen attractions from Montreal, and having a car trip to Toronto and back !! I moved from Montreal 25 years ago but I used to go up to the Oratory very, very often alone and with the occasion friend and walk around for hours. There are so many undiscovered areas that are very holy and spiritual. One in particular I would like to share is in that the 10,000 plus votive candles generate a lot of heat and have to emit this heat out into an area covered by a marble archway/portico. When you discover this in the middle of winter, it provides an intense radiating warmth that takes off the winter chill. There are many others untapped hidden treasures however, many of these are best discovered in the Spring, as the snow melts away. Safe journeys!

To understand or give meaning to the Architecture i suggest you look into The Ancient Greek Hero if your asking why? The Greek word for meaning actually means the Tomb of a Hero. Also drinking the water available from Stations of the Cross and having holy communion and then visiting the tomb is comparable to a ritual to get in contact with the "dead". Just sayin it all fits. The Catholic church empire has beautiful churches here in Canada. I being a First nations person who comes from the First peoples here in Canada. It is very sad that the St Joseph basilica here in Edmonton turned me away when I wanted to get my children baptised in 2020 at the church here in Edmonton. I did go to the church in the 1987 and had another child baptised there. Canada forced my mother and her siblings to go to residentail day school. in the early part of the nineteenth century. It has destroyed our people and now I want to seek my catholic beliefs the church staff turn me away. Who is the church for now a days. ONLY people who are not First nations, very sad that this discriminations keeps some first nations out. God is about love and treating each other with love not rejecting because you dont look a certain way😐

I live just down the street. Inside it's like visiting a mall with escalators. There are actually shops. There is a nativities museum. The main part of the church is disappointingly ugly; very art nouveau. And, it's not on Mount Royal but on Westmount. There are three peaks to this dormant volcano with the cemetery in the crater.

I actually quite like the interior of the main basilica. Distinguishes it from other churches in the neogothic or roman style. It's kinda like a fusion between older architectural styles and more modern ones. The organ itself is a work of art.
