Don't forget that Canadians who become non-residents for tax purposes are "deemed" to dispose of all assets on the date they become non-residents. In effect, they are taxed on all unrealized capital gains up to that point. This can be a substantial "exit tax".

Depending on the size of capital gains you are sitting on, you might dispose in batches of $250K per year to avoid that 67% inclusion and then leave Canada after that.
