Canada`s T-34-85 Tank Running First Time In 23 Years

The Soviet Union gave Canada this T-34 tank in 1989 to commemorate the assistance Canada gave them in the Second World War. The tank is in perfect condition and has been on display in the War Museum ever since. The ``Awesome Tank Rally`` held at the museum is the first time it has been run in 23 years. I spoke with a mechanic who said it started right up with no troubles.

it was the first time i heard the iconic T34 running. it's fortunate that canada has a working specimen of this war winning tank and even more fortunate that we have a team doing the hard work to keep this tank running and demonstrating it for future generations. thank you to your team for making this possible. maybe in the future we could see it being run longer and on a different field.

@@obr-ns7js you can see the parliament buildings and the federal court building in the top left corner of the screen at 1:40 . Having grown up in Ottawa and going off the angle of the shot, this was more than likely filmed at the "new" Canadian War museum located at 1 Vimy Place, Ottawa, Ontario. Its an amazing museum, i suggest you check it out if you ever have the opportunity. They have an impressive collection of military vehicles on display. This new location is a combination of the two old war museums that used to be in Ottawa. One was located beside the Royal Canadian Mint, close to the art gallery which was more of a professional set up with displays gaurded by motion detctors, ect. And one was across the street from the new location. The latter was literally just a massive ware house full of old military hardware with one old guy running the show, real quiet place. Tanks, jeeps, artillery pieces, anti aircraft guns, APCs, ect from WW2 onwards. My dad took me there as a kid, id sneak behind the ropes and man the old AA guns, traverseing and elevating the barrels with the hand wheels... Good times

Ahh, number 102, in Soviet Poland there was a show about a tank crew of t 34 / 85, it's number was 102, and it was nicknamed "Rudy". It stands for a Ginger, in the crew there was a dog, called Szarik (Шарик), that is in Russian a ball. I really love that show. If you have someone that can translate it for you, I really recommend watching it (sorry for bad English)

Очень приятно посмотреть ещё раз на такой приятный сердцу интерьер . Однако есть один очень важный момент - у всей военной техники тех лет шкалы приборов имеют краску типа СПД - и нужно тщательно следить чтобы ни на одном приборе не было разбито защитное стекло . В противном случае вы рискуете надышаться радиоактивной пыли .

the clanking sound of the tank is the track pin deflector ramming the track pins back in place. the t34 tank tracks are unique in that the track pins are not held in place by any bolt or clip. the pins are free floating and when they start to come out of the track they pass by a heavy steel deflector that rams them back into the track. a very simple method of pin placement that made repairing the tracks and production of the tank easier. it does however sound like the transmission is getting ready to drop out of it, but the sound is normal.

In Starý Tekov / Slovakia / I did T-34/85 14 years ago, it had nothing empty skeleton, me and my three colleagues worked for three weeks from 5 in the morning to 8 in the evening, .. without the manual at first, no one believed us that it will work and when the tank came out of the yard for the first time the whole village ran away and they congratulated us, I felt as if I had liberated the village .... today I work elsewhere, only a unit and a return can be included on the tank, it doesn't do that ,,, life goes on I have the documentation I have

@@candlestyx8517 Well we are talking about WW2 but yeah, they were useless in Korea, they were big Shermans with better guns and don't forget the Pershing, but I like to put emphasis on the fact that the T-34 was a beast in his first years of service, his angled hull was a whole new thing that the Germans later copied to create the Panther. We can't deny that it got a lot of fails, but for me it's a beautiful tank, just below of the T-34-85.

Man I missed this! I think part of the problem is it’s running on modern fuel without lead additives... and the driver is inexperienced, as he would be unless he was in a military that used t34s. I’d love to see that Panther they have there at the War Museum up and running....

i spoke with the driver after the demonstration and he was a retired army tank driver. the odd sounds are the track pins. the motor was running flawlessly at the time.

@@cocodog85 odd sound is not the track pins, odd sound is tracks being to tight or dry/rusted so every time pin is hammered in, it makes a screeching sound. I've been around T-34s in active service and not one sounded like this.

В той войне мы с Канадой были союзники и воевали плечом к плечу! Советские танкисты очень ценили канадские Валентайны. Дед рассказывал, что в танке, который он получал, был полный комплект, вплоть до меховых комбинезонов и консервированного бекона, а в ящиках снаряды были пересыпаны кукурузным зерном! Им голодавшим в начале 1942г. это зерно очень помогло!

The M4 entered active service with the British in North Africa in October 1942. The soviet T-34 entered service in 1940. The American penchant for mass production tended to stymie innovations in technology, and American doctrinal thinking tended to remain stuck in the prewar period, when the tank was seen as primarily an infantry support weapon. As a result, the M4 was not “up-gunned” until late in the war, and American, British, and Canadian tank crews consistently faced better German tanks. Panther and the Tiger had significantly greater range and accuracy. The German tanks were also more survivable. @@Tonyx.yt. Knife is inferior to the gun, but superior when you need to peel an apple. I'm saying this to point out that there are no absolutes. No black and white. No better or worse. Christie suspension has at least few superior attributes then torsion bars. Those are range of movement, and having a shock absorber and a coil makes critical failure less problematic. If torsion bar brakes there is nothing to hold the wheel from flapping around and causing problems. Real handicap of Christie suspension is weight limitations. Not space taken or performance like some "experts" keep repeating.

First batches of T34 measured their reliability in hundreds of kilometers and the engine casting were know to shed shavings for the first few hours. But they had excellent cross country necessary in Russia/ Ukraine, simple to operate ( apparently you drive a tractor, you can drive a t34) and were easy to produce. @@jeffho1727 First batches of many tanks were awful, incl. Panther for example. Since, say, 1943 T-34 was very good. As for speed, Russians praised T-34 for its speed in real conditions; probably, compared to Shermans and Pz4s not to say about definitely slow Tigers and other heavy tanks

V Starom Tekove / Slovensko/ som pred 14 rokmi robil T- 34/85, nemal nič prázdny skelet, ja a moji traja kolegovia tri týždne od 5-tej ráno do 8-mej večer robili,..bez manuálu spočiatku,nik nám neveril, že sa to podarí a keď prvý krát vyšiel tank z dvora zbehla sa celá dedina a gratulovali nám, cítil som sa , ako keby som tu dedinu oslobodil....dnes už robím inde, na tanku sa dá zaradiť len jednotka a spiatočka, nemá to to urobiť,,,život ide ďalej ja dokumentáciu mám

@@canadaauroraborealis3958 it’s only around late 1942 and after where the obese cats started showing up, but these tanks were heavy, unreliable, expensive, with few standardized parts and a complex design making field repairs a hellish nightmare. They also chugged fuel like no tomorrow, which Germany at this time was in desperate need of. All these downsides were only compensated by decent frontal armor and a powerful gun. But they eventually were outclassed in EVERY way by the soviet IS-2, making them effectively obsolete.

Dude, "spider" type wheels were mounted mainly on tanks from factory no.183 (mainly, cause 'full' wheels were also mounted in plant no.183 and this tank looks to be from that factory) since 1944 to the end of production, so it's not good to judge the version only by the wheels. This one is 'newer' version, cause it has one-piece commander's hatch (production of this type of hatch started in January of 1945). This T-34-85 has also some post war modifications, like the little box on the left side of hull, and aditional light on the right side.

pekné video ide o povojnovú T-34 robil som takýto stroj , dávno cca 15 rokov dozadu nebolo v ňom nič holý skelet , má motor z T55 ach to boli časy je pojazdný ide ale iba jednotka a spiatočka nerobím už tam a preto to nemá kto urobiť
