Yeah, that was my solution when I thought about it as well. I'd like if they had a bunch of proper carpenters, electricians and other experts go in an do the job speedily and perfectly to show how it's done after they've bumbled about. Don't think I'll watch them just bumbling about. I'd like to actually learn something.

I like how the class is teaching them how to do something completely incorrect LOL. You’re supposed to cut the hole bigger and a squarish shape so that you can screw the drywall directly into each stud rather than screwing around with the strapping and trying to make a close shape

No, actually you reverse the shingle on the first course. This makes the edge sealed and they you lay the next layer down. It prevents overlap of the seems.
