Canada and Australia are 2 of the most livable countries on earth but how do they compare? Which has better health? Education? Employment?
Data Sources: pastebin.com/e...
The first connection between Canada and Australia was the deportation of 154 Canadian rebels to Australia in the 1800s. Since then counties have developed strong ties and having fought alongside each other in multiple wars and UN security council missions.
This is Alex, an Aussie with family in Canada, and today I wanted to objectively compare these countries to see which is more liveable. So looking at education, employment, health, happiness, and Security & Safety lets.
Keep in mind that these figures are based on country wide data. Obviously, there is a huge variation within both countries based on demographics such as location and wealth.
Oh, and at the end of the day, this just a video on KZbin. Your situation is unique, and your identity is more than your countries or these stats. No need to resort to insults in the comments.

As a Canadian, I can't help but notice Australia and Canada have a really great relationship. I think we both have great overall senses of humour about ourselves, and unique senses of outdoor adventure. I haven't been to Australia yet, but I can imagine it will feel like a home away from home. ❤️

Yeah there definitely is a pretty decent link between the two countries for sure. I am a citizen/resident of both, and the way I compare is that one is a wintery mountain and lake version, the other is a summery and beachy version of each other (obviously with a few extra quirks, but in generalized terms).

I don’t understand why people dish Canada for its weather. I love the variations of the weather here. Summers are awesome for barbeques, boating, hiking etc. then you get fall & the colours turn soo pretty everywhere. Then the winter arrives with snow and makes the place a winter wonderland! Enjoy skiing, ice skating, snowball fights. Then you have spring with flowers blooming everywhere, sakura, tulip festivals. You also have the US & Mexico relatively closeby to enjoy beaches if you want. I just Love Canada!

Pre-covid, I managed a shop down the street from a cafe that had 2 Aussie staff, working in Canada on a 2year visa. tbh, i think you completely missed the mark with this one, considering sydney is in the top ten for most racially diverse cities in the world. plus its extremely lingistically diverse. you see lots of bilingual signs in chinese and english. plus atleast from what ive seen most recently in the city is that theres still alot of new chinese businesses moving into sydney. i would say that, we arent as accepting of specific groups not because we have anything against them but overall are more cautious and definetly prefer to have students and highly trained foreigners move to australia rather than low wage, low skilled workers.

@@slicer2938 I appreciate and understand your POV, but being diverse (I won't apply the term "race" to people), isn't a helpful measuring stick. You can go to NYC or Los Angeles and see lots and lots of "diversity," but the other part of that same story is segregation. A more extreme example is apartheid Cape Town was very diverse! But.... well, ya know... As for Seydney, diverse, again that's more about numbers, but it is still very conformist to the dominanat WASPy-Aussie mode of being and there are stiil lots of terms and things said out loud that make me cringe a bit. I have lived long term in both countries. Originally born in the UK and now living in Australia for over 30 years. Both great countries but I give the slight edge to Canada. Mainly because Australia is quite isolated from the rest of world and thus believes itself to the best at a lot of things where most Aussies have no experience of other nations. Canada being next door to U.S. is more aware of their position in the world. I also miss the changing of the seasons. Australia pretty much has 8 months of the year with quite hot summers with winters Canadians would call spring weather. Of course being a large country this can vary. Only an opinion though as no problems in residing in either country.

I'm amazed at how similar both countries are. I would prefer the weather in Oz, but it's a little isolated down there. Canada has cooler weather in winter, but you can just hop in a car and drive to other countries - main place is USA but also Mexico, Central America, or go sailing in the Gulf to Barbados, Cuba, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas etc. I suppose you can go sailing from Oz too though. Yeah, amazingly similar. I would like to go to Oz and tour it on a motorcycle or something for fun. I've already done most of Canada - it's quite an adventure. But what's really amazing is that Canadians and Australians can just hop on a plane and visit each other easily and we speak the same language. Sort of took all that for granted.

So cheap, safe, clean, friendly people, great outdoors and i loved being able to drive to to America whenever I wanted. Also, the cold is pretty cool once you get used to it and get into the hockey and drinking culture! Australia had by far the best weather (Canada only gets nice weather like that for 4 months a year) and also aussies are cool people but I hated how isolated it felt and it kind of feels abit behind in some aspects. My son moved to Canada five years ago and is now a permanent resident. He is returning home at the end of this year, deeply disillusioned. He is an attractive, sporty guy, has a good career and is very easy going but Canadian girls that he meets say they won't get too involved because he might want to return home. He was also shocked at the low wage rates C$12ph for jobs that would easily pay double that the Australia. He also lists the cost of living which he says is much higher than in Australia for things like runniing a car and rent. With Covid-19 he is lucky becuase his job is secure, but he says that even people who have become permanent residents, for the first three years they cannot claim any social security like income support unless his original sponsor quaranteed to repay it. He says life would be better in the USA. No. Canada was not a good experience for him. And I have heard that from many Australians who have returned. Its not all the Rockies, Banf and Calgary at all.

Im born Canadian and live here too however my mother resides in Aussie land and i do have dual citizen ship .. Been there few times and loved it since both countries share similar values and a way of life .. I do have the option to live there permanent . One thing always gets me why do Aussies drive on the wrong side of the street while the majority of the world drives on the right side :P Also their import vehicles such as F150 truck/ute will set you back 120k+ or a Chrysler 300C sedan 110k.. and in Canada 40-60k for the F150 and 25-45k for the sedan. or a pair of Canadian Walmart 30$ jeans will set you 80$ in Australia.. In conclusion Australia is beautiful with their vast summer beaches and 2 yearly seasons and Canada is breathtaking all year round with its 4 seasons climate change. It boils down to a individual preference ... As for my self personally looking forward experiencing all weather season compared to other folks that only like hot/warm climate. So who is better .. hard to says.. I prefer Canada over all..but will always visit Aussie land in reality i have it pretty good :P Cheers

My husband of 45 years went to visit his brother in Sydney Australia back in the 1980's and he saw enough to not want to live in Australia. We live in Canada and yes our winters are very cold. In Australia their heat is something else and snakes and insects by the tons and he didn't like the way the people are either. We were thinking about immigrating to Oz until he saw all that he wanted about that country. I received a phone call one evening from him in Australia and said to me in these words: don't pack anything and don't sell anything I am coming home and we will talk. My husband's brother has been living in Oz since 1963 and he is used to it after all these years. My husband didn't take to Oz well and finds Canada a great deal more advanced than Oz and I have heard that from many Canadians and Europeans who have gone on visits and some lived there as well and came back to Canada. Oz is more for people who come from third world hell holes but not for people who have lived in an advance society and go down to lower. I don't mind our winters here in Canada and it depends on where you live just like in Australia and how you cope with either heat or cold. I take the cold any day to the terrible heat, snakes, insects and the like. Canada is the best place in the world to live and people all know that. You have to travel and experience things to know that. I still think about what my husband said all those years ago about Australia and he is here now and we both laugh about it. I am in Canada until I die.

Some people like the cold, some people like the beach etc. Im an aussie who has lived in Canada (Alberta) for the last 11 years. Im planning to move back to oz in a few years with my wife and 2 young kids - my 2 main reasons are that the winter here is tooooo looooong and the primary/secondary school system here is not as good as Australia (in our opinion). Theyre both good countries to live in and you cant go too wrong choosing to live in either. One other observation is that Aussies are less forgiving and expect more of staff or co-workers in the workplace - this is sometimes a good thing, sometimes not - depends which side of the situation you find yourself in.

As a dual national who's lived in both countries for years, l say it depends on your priorities. Australia has a superior Medical system and Social Services are better...and the Country is united...the whole Quebec nonsense really cripples Canada. Australia's Achilles heel is the way older workers are treated...there is a lot of Ageism, and older workers have a much harder job finding and keeping a job. When I hit 50 in Australia I found it impossible to find a decent job, and wound up driving taxi. The one thing I was told time after time by older Aussies is that they feel that they were the first ones laid off, and that getting laid off was disastrous. I returned to Canada, and was doing real well in the Oilfields...until Trudeau came to power and killed things. Therein lies Australia's indisputable advantage...a Triple E Senate, which prevents the two most populated States from dominating and crippling the country. I intend to return to Australia, because I believe it has the brighter future...Aussies actually defend their borders, and give all sections of the country an opportunity to prosper.

I recently visited Australia for the first time. I was struck by how British influenced/focused the culture was: sports, news, words used, tv shows, etc. Far more of the culture in Canada is domestic home grown culture. British influence in Canada is tiny. Beyond that I was surprised how similar the 2 countries were. Australia looked and felt like Canada in summer but with palm trees. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay but would miss the change of seasons. After 4 months of summer I'm done. I don't want 8-12 months of it .

I've been to both countries. Australia has warmer weather which I prefer and gorgeous beaches. Canada has spectacular mountain landscapes. In both countries, the people are very friendly. But I must say, some white Australians are a racist. Though both countries are VERY similar. I would have to say, Canada is like New Zealand and Australia is like the USA. Canada and New Zealand are the quiet high achievers much loved all over the world, with beautiful, friendly people. Both have a better (not perfect) track record of treatment towards their indigenous populations. Australia is more like the USA - brash, loud, always ready to send its military to war and often believe they are a better version of their closest neighbour. Both countries have treated their indigenous people rather poorly and still do.

At 2:40 see the fact that average salary is higher in Australia is misleading. Yeah it’s only 1K more but as cost of living is higher in Australia means you ultimately save less....so it’s actually another win for Canada. Same for Universities. They are ranked based on funds and as Canadian institutions are more affordable they are ranked a bit lower but in terms of quality of education it’s the same as an American university. So in Canada it is like getting a US degree but at half the price which sorry to say is better than most Australian Universities.
