Case study in how superior athleticism simply outperforms lesser athleticism over the course of a game. Strategy, skill and teamwork can keep things competitive, but basketball is a sport of athletes. Latvia came out gangbusters and had a great game plan at the beginning of the game. However, superior athleticism simply wore down the Latvian side, which couldn't keep making the three pointers and when they eventually got tired and started making mistakes they were overtaken in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Latvia simply had no defensive answer for SGA, Barrett and Olynyk and despite an absolute lion's heart, Latvia couldn't keep up with the length, strength, and quickness of the Canadian side.

Not necessarily, Latvia were without a number of players injured including their leader/ captain and have beaten Athletic teams before, athleticism alone doesn't win games, it's a combination of factors combined.

Man, i don't think that Canada is missing 4 out of starting 5 players in their roster. I think it's 2 or 3. Besides the impact of missing players is lesser for CAN as of average overall level doesn't drop so significantly. It would be interesting to see Latvia with KP, Dairis Bertans (injury 1/4 vs france), Strelnieks (injury, starting PG) and Lomazs (injury, 2nd PG) in full strength vs Canada (and other teams). But we'll see through until the Olympics! Nevertheless, respect for the best Canada team i've seen thus far. Wish Steve Nash could complete it!

For us Latvia.... we really do not have any option inside, Smits is good but KP is not playing and Pasecniks is injured too and really... he would not be a great help.
