Curious how do your home deposit work why can you pnly put a max amount in?

it’s a Canadian registered plan (FHSA)where there is a $8,000 contribution limit annually up to $40,000. If you don’t contribute the full amount then it rolls over to the next year. I’m then able to invest my money in stocks/etfs etc and make more money on it tax free. This money needs to be put towards a home within 15 years of starting the account and if not it can transfer over to my RRSPs (similar to 401k if you’re American)

@cdngirlcashstuffer oh cool its kinda similar to new Zealands kiwisaver we pick a percentage of our pay we want to go into an account we cant touch and it gets taken out before we get out pay (like tax). The only times u can withdraw it is for a first home bankruptcy surgery or retirement. This definitely helped us buying our first home
