You're lucky to have found older nickels if they're in bank wrapped rolls. Canada is reclaiming nickel and silver and sending those coins back to Canada Mint for melting and metal recovery.

I guess the new year is coming an hour sooner to me than it is to you, but happy new year anyway. I live right near Canada but I never found a 1941 Canadian nickel. I got a 40, 44, and 45 I found 40 to 50 years ago but I’ve never found another one in the 40s since then. I’m still enjoying looking at my 1945P silver quarter I found in the Coinstar yesterday.

Shame on you Rob, don't disappoint Jan LOL. At least out of that new rolls, you get REAL nice ones for the book. >>;=) If I ever make the long drive to BC again, I definitely would like to do some roll hunting up there. I do have a good little bit of halves and the older Voyageur $1s I got from hitting a couple of banks on Vancouver Island back in '15; none are silver, but really cool either way. This was cool brother; a little something different than we normally get to see. Oh and happy new year to you and Charlani!!

Here in canada most CRH hate seeing machine wrapped rolls. Usually means they came from the alloy recovery program (arp) and most if not all older coins have been sorted out and only newer coins without any special metals are rolled and sent back out to the public for circulation. Customer wrapped rolls are where I find the coins I keep

I'd like a cliff note version of what to look for in Canadian coins - I know about the older silvers - but not what to look for in modern coins worth keeping. We go to Canada every year and I have lots of modern change. I'm disappointed that the local grocery store took out their Coinstar equivalent machine. I grabbed a 1968 silver dime a couple years ago.

Tough to find silver in machine wrapped rolls because every 6 months now the RCM runs an ALLOY RECOVERY PROGRAM so most of the silver is picked by the machines except for the 1968 dime and 1968 quarter some of them slipped through because they were accidentally minted on silver planchets but they are only 50% silver so they slip through the machines

Nice to see an American hunting Canadian coins. BTW: the Diadem 2001 you got to fill the spot happens to be the *RARE* No P 2001 (Mintage only 8M or so), so even in that shape, you should keep it, even if you later choose another quarter to fill the Diadem spot. In 2 years of CRH in Canada, I didn't find more than 10 (maybe less) 2001 no Ps. You're lucky to having got one in just 4 rolls. The 2001 no P are the very last quarters made of 100% nickel. The P mint marke means "multi-ply Plated steel" which is the composition of nearly all coinage until today. The 2001 no P is more rare than the famous 1970 key date (just over 10 million).

wow, the 2001 25 cents is more rare than you think. there is 2 variety, the 2001 and the common one 2001-P. you got the rare one. 8.4 millions only versus 56 millions for the P one.
@spagsketti18 күн бұрын
A few years ago I got a coin collection and there was a roll of 1963 Canadian nickels and they all had a die clash on the side with the beaver (the reverse I think). It was the lower part of the bust under the beaver. I still have a bunch of them left all BU. I tried looking it up on the Canadian coin website and only found a blip of it that someone added to the site who had one. I have no clue what they are worth in good BU condition.
@becardw318 күн бұрын
Rob, any reason that you don’t keep the colorized quarters? They are fairly low mintage. Even CAD Roll Hunter saves them.
@CADRollHunter18 күн бұрын
@becardw3 I pull all the colourized quarters out and count them as 'finds' in my hunts, however I don't necessarily keep them all. Particularly the 2004 Poppy and 2006 Pink Ribbon, which are very common and are often in poor shape. I count them, but send them back. Most of the rest are hard enough to come by, and I hold onto them. However, now that I have rolls of them, I'll likely start only keeping the best of the best that I find and gradually thin out my existing collection by throwing back the most circulated ones.
@RobFindsTreasure16 күн бұрын
