the OPP charged my abusive ex with "assault with a weapon" - it was two beer bottles and a chair he threw at me, but didn't hit me. Why would they charge "with a weapon". This is his second assault - first one was 20 years ago and dropped (it wasn't with me, it was with another ex).

I heard some time in the past, that the only weapon a Canadian can use to defend themselves with is a stick with nails in it. Is this true? Would the court system slow leniency if you hurt someone using such a weapon?

He's literally a lawyer guy no it's not a crime to defend yourself only with reason. Please educate yourself about your rights we have rights here in Canada.

He’s not talking about self-defence situations, he’s talking about plain old criminal assaults. like when your ex girlfriend's dad comes banging on your door holding a crowbar making threats
