She came so far and needs more time from you. I think she is happy in her catio at this point. She seems to like watching the farm from the safety of her catio.

Hi Chad. Love your interactions with the kitties. Bubbles is a tiny introverted little cat. I too feel she is best as an indoor only cat. She is not being punished to not go out. If she was out it may be too overwhelming and she may hide and not come back. She lives a great life with you as an indoor only girl.

This can happen to intact female dogs and cats. We had a friend who's dog had emergency surgery to save her life due to a severe uterine infection. Thank God and 8000.00 later for surgery at an emergency hospital she has recovered. Look forward to seeing new adventures.

Bubbles most,likely is either a dwarf or she has a heart defect… she looks exactly like one of the kitties I had from one of our farm cat litters… the first time I saw her I was like, MITTENS!!!! Mittens was the matriarch or our farm cats… she had sooooo many litters of kittens when I was growing up on our farm… never had a problem with ice or rodents of any kind with all of those cats… but after a while, we started getting freaky kitties because mittens would get bred with a son of daughter … all of that related mitochondrial DNA does not mix very well! Finally was able to convince my dad that we need3d to fix the girls so we would stop having so many litters of kittens..l he refused to fox the boys though,,, he said I wouldn’t u dermatologist d since I don’t have 'balls." lol… whatever…. But yeah, we had a couple,e of kittens that were just like bubbles… half the size of her liter mates, skittish, stand off ish etc… out of the 3 we had, 2 were dwarfs and the other one had a hole in her heart… they were all females too… at one time, we had 63 cats all together on our farm… after fixing the girls, they slowly died off over the years… now, there are half a dozen out there, all descendants of Mittens… my dad would insist on keeping a female intact out of every 5th or 6th litter just so he could keep some kitties around… I would tell him he could always go to the shelter and get more kitties… he didn’t need to breed his own,,,

In my humble opinion Bubbles is not a semi feral cat but is a sensitive cat with some psychological problem, who knows the reason why. She may just need too gain some self confidence in order to get balanced and overcome fear. Unfortunately, that can only be achieved by facing the challenge and going through it. She must learn to be free... and that can be overwhelming for her. I totally understand the way you feel about the situation, such a tough decision. My best way to go would be firstly train her to come with some treats associated to a sound (like a treat bag sound or something) and then as you said, leave the door open, keeping an eye on her and see how she behaves. Great episode Chad, the longer the better P.S. Olive´s English is better than mine, for sure! Cheers from Spain

Hey Chad, in regards to Bubbles, have you considered putting in a microchip cat door? You program all your cat's microchips to it and can even set a one way timed closure. This way if for instance Bubbles won't return, the door locks for exits at a time you choose when cats are in, but still allows any set microchip cats to enter. It's also a good backup if you ever can't round up one, if all are used to the door. It means as well if one wants to go back in or not feeling the best, they can and not waiting to be round up. If you let Bubbles explore the area slowly and try to use the microchip door first on a cat cave so she's used to it, she may just hang around closely and knows she can go back in when she wants. I'd get her used to the door first then only let her out if she uses the door once installed for a while before going out through the gate. That way she knows exactly how to get back in. I'd stick by her during the first outings. Foxes etc can't enter, it's set for the microchip. Also doesn't matter if a collar falls all. I haven't used one myself to give a review though. Oh, I know you said you will desex the female cats, but I wouldn't let Bubbles out until she is, just to be safe her calls don't attract predators or she wanders looking for a mate. Some females mark a lot during heat, my stray cat did when I found her before desexing, so could attract predators and mess up their cat den. Too many heat cycles can also strongly increase the chances of a deadly and horrendously painful condition called pyometria. Is it just Maggie and Bubbles left for desexing? There's a better method called the left flank method and is safer and they recover so much faster too.

I have a Tractive GPS collar on my cat after 2 escapades, one necessiting the Firefighters intervention. He spends most of the day in the yard on an extra long leash. It's a cost but if Bubbles went outside your property you would get an alert and be able to always track her.
@HiddenSpringFarm6 ай бұрын
Here’s the thing though, I can’t even hold her long enough to get her collar on. I’ve been able to get her and pick her up maybe twice in a year, she usually just stays away or she’ll come close then run. If I squeeze tightly she goes crazy and I feel it’ll just make her more skittish. It’s the same either way Mango if I try to pick him up now he freaks out and yes I could force it but then he may just become fearful of me that’s how I got into this mess.

With Bubbles, it might help to get her spayed. Although, she is probably still too small to go outside. Your female cats would be much happier and less sexually tormented if you get them spayed. I know it's very expensive there in Canada, but maybe if you do one cat a year, it won't hurt your budget too badly. That's what I have to do with my 7 cats when it comes to getting their teeth cleaned. I do 2 cats a year. It costs approx $1,000 for each cleaning. Ugh!!! Wishing you all the Best! Love from Texas ❤

What I love about how the Catio particularly is how much enrichment you put in it, it’s great for all the cats but it’s especially important for Bubbles and I’m so happy she has it. Millions of cats are indoor only and have a great life mentally and physically thanks to proper enrichment, and you went above and beyond. So even though Bubbles probably does want to go outside and be with the others, I’m sure she’s happy regardless. I think the best option would be to consult a vet or even a cat psychiatrist if you have one in the area (yes they exist lol! We took our cat to one because she had weird issues with litter boxes that the vet ruled were psychological and not physical)

Love this spring farm tour. Hang in there with Bubbles. I have a rescue cat that gave birth to 7 kittens after I took her in. Mom cat is not a cuddly cat. Of the 2 kittens we kept it took almost 3 years before the very skittish one would climb into my lap. She is the very one I had to help breathe at birth. The other kitten has always been a cuddler. None of them however, like to be picked up or held. Mom was spayed when the kittens were 8 weeks old and the kittens we kept were spayed at 3 months old. Thankfully this was done in January 2020 before all the lockdowns, as living with female cats in heat is a very stressful experience all round. These cats are polar opposites to the many other cats I've had in the past. Kind persistence should bring Bubbles around. If she has not been spayed think about getting it done as this may calm her down.But I would still keep her in the enclosure, go with your gut, you know your animals.

So much activity on the Farm in Spring! What do you think about taking Bubbles home and letting her be a pampered house kitty? I have a very small female cat too, so I know your worries. She would have more time to bond with you and your wife; although she will need time to adjust. She’s already used to being indoors; she may be content to perch near the windows. Shy kitties like her need time to initiate interactions; and just spend a lot of time near you without you always trying to get her to respond to you. You’re a natural Dog person; so that may be a challenge for you Chad! 😊 Just sit in your recliner and watch TV ignoring her and you may find she is sitting on top of the your chair right next to you! Just a suggestion from a cat lady😊. I’m sure you will figure out the best solution. Love your channel!

The reality with Bubbles is you need to let a cat be a cat. Some cats are more feral than others. My girl Crumpet is like her.. you need to stop trying to control every little thing and let go! She shouldn't be trapped inside just because of your fear. The reality of farm/outdoor cats is there's a risk of them succumbing to their lifestyle. She will likely come in for food. Shake a bag of kibble or open the cat food cans and when she sees/hears the other cats begging for food she will want to come back in, too

Also, I'm saying this as an RVT (veterinary technician). You need to let a cat be a cat. I think you over did it at the start with her and she is fearful of you
@Kelly_Australia6 ай бұрын
He does call them barn cats but treats them as pets and it's fine if he doesn't want to risk it again. Many cats are indoor cats so don't have as much as she has now. If he finds a solution such as a microchip cat door and takes his time, then great. Yet if she seems curious but then bolts back in all the time, then that's fine too. He's not forcing her or Fozzy to hunt, they are pets too. He's not going to risk losing more to predators just because she's curious, he'll think it through. At least she's out of the small barn area she was once in.

You could get some Captain Jack Neem Oil for your fruit trees before the Beetles 🪲come. It is organic. Maybe you would get some cherries 🍒 this year

Hey Chad, maybe you can get one of those extendable cat leashes for Bubbles and practice taking her around the Farm for walks so she gets accustomed to the outdoors, then take her back to the Sanctuary. Hopefully that might teach her that she's to go back 'home' and at least in the meanwhile she'll get to enjoy some outdoors.

I don't know if Bubbles would allow that when she rarely allows pats.

It’s a nice thought but the trouble is that I can’t even really get her to put on a simple collar. Even Mango won’t let me put his collar back on. If I chase her down trying to hold her so tightly to put a collar on she’ll only get that much more skittish.

Omg, even though I'm almost 77 and a female, I was raised by a father who owned a sawmill -- how I would love to have one again. My son just got a planner and says I can use it anytime - so guess I'll have to do with that.

Have you thought about making her an actual indoor cat rather than a farm cat and move her into your home? Constant contact would probably make her come right out and be a cuddle monster for end of the day after farm chores. Alternatively what about a in only cat flap so that you dont have to be there to let her in. She might feel more comfortable that way. Or add to the cat house so that there are mesh tunnels going through the forest floor that open up into smaller enclosures around trees etc. would be good for the other cats when they cant come out as well.

Think you are being responsible as a pet owner keeping her safe. Yeah its sad that she cant join in but at the end of the day she is safe and looked after which is the most important.

As a side note. May want to add a mud wallow to the pigs outdoor area. Billy is looking a little pink. The wet mud will help protect her from the sun a bit 😊

I did have her in our house for a while last year and even though I had 3 litter boxes for her she soiled all throughout the house in our saga and run and chairs. She would literally just hide all the time. Hence to say I gave up on that idea, plus I’m really allergic to cats on top of that.

Love your videos and how you refer to your wife as "my darlin" it's very sweet. You said Maggie is in heat, are the cats not spayed & neutered???
@HiddenSpringFarm6 ай бұрын
Aww thanks, yes all the boys are neutered, the girls are not spayed.

What a great video Chad, I loved it! Congratulations on hatching adorable goslings! I think you should let Bubbles go out (she's so skittish she might not go far) but it's worth a try? 🥰🥰
@HiddenSpringFarm6 ай бұрын
Yes that’s what I’ll do with Bubbles, I’m hoping she doesn’t go far either.

I wouldn’t push Bubbles outside simply because she likely would not return. Forcing her to conform to what you’d like for her isn’t a good idea either.

🇦🇺Will you make a covered structure for the saw mill? And a covered place to dry milled timber and or logs that need to be cut?
@HiddenSpringFarm6 ай бұрын
Oh yes, it’ll hopefully follow the same angled roofline as the workshop. Of course I have to mill a lot of lumber first but it’s gonna be fun
