Hi everyone! I am pushing the limits, driving about 4 hours per day and working my way down that steep mountain to haul materials down to where I'm building the 'cabin on a cliff' in order to build myself a little shed prior to the actual cabin build. In this video, I haul most of the milled/dimensional lumber down the steep mountain (appprox. 500 vertical feet) for the shed build, work on the foundation, and frame the subfloor.
For those that are new to watching, I have a series on the cabin build called "cabin on a cliff" where you will be able to be caught up on what's going on here/logistics. But the basics are: this is our remote 20 acre off-grid property, the location of the little cabin and shed are near the top of the property which we access by an old rail grade. We have our main cabin (dovetail log cabin) down by the water, and a trail we built connecting the two locations. Main cabin accessed typically by an additional road or by boat.
Thanks for watching, and I will see you next week for more progression on this cute little shed! It's gonna be super cute if I do say so myself!l
(I also sketched out a rough drawing on what this shed will look like in the video named "living in the mountains - adventures on skis and water" if you wanna check that out. 😊

Hi Peter (Pan), Enough compliments have already been made and I do not want to repeat them. What always amazes me (not only with you) is the way to work with the chainsaw. (Work myself in the forest, in Germany only with examination). Especially when cutting at head height or above, which is to be avoided and you are also alone! Who makes the emergency call if something happens? There are some safety rules that you should also follow. The bad thing is that we do not have a cut here, the chain rips out muscles, tissue, bones and leaves behind wonderful injuries. We don't even talk about the dirt and the chain oil which can lead to very nice infections. But as a nurse you know that better than I do. I don't want to play the teacher here, but you should think about what you are doing, especially if you are working alone. Many greetings from Germany and good luck.

Thanks for keeping subtitles or cc on. Watching while daughter and cousin are chatting. Use a winch to drop loads down and up to your car, it will act as a ballast. Use a wire rope attached to 2 sturdy trees at either end. The load could be attached and slid CONTROLLED down the mountainside. Lastly, need to improve access, use hairpin bends with shallow grades so even in emergencies everyone can get to you or Steve. Best of luck

I wonder with all the snow you get in your area if a cargo sled would be helpful for schlepping goods and materials to your cabin and tree sites would be useful. Presumably something with a rope or handle to allow you to follow it downhill or pull it up. The tuna made my mouth water. Not bad for pet food! 😎

Love how you challenge yourself in every vid, we all know your shed is going to be all cute an stuff. Here's to part 2

“The we haven’t got it store” AKA Canadian Tire, didn’t have any crazy carpets in stock. I had thought of that, but my only option was to buy a crazy carpet online and that would take forever to get here. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Alternatively what I realized afterwards is that the sleigh could have potentially worked if I was on the downhill side rather than the uphill side, and just guiding it down slowly. But there’s a fair amount of fiddling with that whole set up /scenario, which chews up my precious time out there, so I decided to just cut my loses with the sleigh and just slide things down. 😁

Absolutely! I was a rather aggressive hockey player back in the day. Still am, but just don’t play much. I sort have some plans for a hockey thing in the future, so stay tuned! As for the shed, I’m gonna be using lots of raw materials from the area. The floor I cut to size and put together roughly at home, but because I’ll be using Timbers from the site, that won’t really work.

Those plastic sleds are notorious for being uncontrollable, I really thought that it would be a great asset in getting your stuff down to the sight, but not-so-much I guess.
