New year new G3! Yall are creating your own dynasty and I'm here for it. As a southerner that chorus hits with me, I can see the influences. There's southern influence and there is definitely west coast influence going on you can just hear the Nate Dogg. As far as LiAngelo goes I'm literally not a fan all I know is that he's from a sort of basketball dynasty I couldn't pick him out of a line up I just hear the family talked about alot so it's unavoidable knowing a little like the early Kardashian days. This song wasn't so good that I'm desiring to hear him rap again but he seems to be on the right track and seems like he wouldn't ruin a song if he were to be featured on it. I like the chorus it's clear he's on the side of hip hop that still cares about staying on beat and not being monotone (the night time hasn't seen as much shade as I've thrown just now) so I can get with this. I even like the tough talk for many reasons. 1. It's paying homage to the people who made him want to rap. 2. It's a staple on the genre and is truer to hip hop than popping pills is. 3. The perceived dangerousness It's a masculine thing and it ironically makes me believe that he's safe and can take care of himself and that he's not out here looking like someone you can easily mess over without consequence. Even if we put him in a box if he's an artist we should keep in mind that artists often tell stories of people besides just themselves (This can be confusing because the stereotype of celebrities are that of selfish people.) 4. The most important reason is because I don't like when people who think they know someone try and dictate how that someone should be ESPECIALLY when it just so happens that the way they should be is coincidentally more like them lol and a lot of time (not yall) the box people put other people into isn't something they actually respect that much but instead something that jives with their preconcieved notions/prejudices of who they are. This all gets really sticky ESPECIALLY when it comes to putting artists/celebrities into boxes because we literally don't know them like most of their job is being known in some ways but not being known in more ways and telling stories so it makes perfect sense to feel like we can put them in boxes but actually doing so doesn't actually make any sense on a reality tip. 5. I'm a big fan of alteregos in hip hop and a hip hop artist who used to have a completely different job loosely falls into this framework. 6. Bonus: Due to America's history with slavery It hits at the heart of a black man the whole dichotomy of what type of black man are you to put it kindly are you a "Real black person" or a "house black person." That's something we constantly think about and putting a black man into the box of "house black person" makes said black man feel like you're taking their potential away even when in actuality you might just value the potential of a "house black person" more. The problem is hip hop throughout it's history has valued the "Real black person" 100x more than the "house black person" who's usually seen as anti hip hop.

Wow, you really broke it down! A lot of what you said is super interesting, and I hadn’t thought about it from some of those perspectives. Thanks for sharing your insights-it’s always cool to see different takes!

Not the first song by a ball brother and liangelo never made it to the nba When you have money everybody is out to get some of it, always gotta be looking over your shoulder, not just about the gang shit. If you knew about the ball family you would know what happened. You’re thinking is flawed, money does not make your life easy. You made fun of him for having an easy life because of money then you backtrack and say people who do that are jealous. The comments 😂🥶
