I'm planning on moving to Italy in a couple years from Canada. I am half Italian and I'd love to meet some family as well. Also, I'm kind tired of all the snow lol. Just up for a new adventure. I'm so excited.

I moved because I am very into my family history and heritage. , italian grandparents from both sides who came through ellis island to NY . Loving the language and waiting to improve my italian. Also found and met my dad’s first cousins and they also Changed my life ! I’m very into my family genealogy and have gone all the way back to 1780 with italian documents for all of my grandparents . I also wanted to easily travel to other countries from Italy.

What a happy story! I'm actually hoping to take over my family geneology (however it's on my Dad's side - French/Finnish). I started compiling as much as I could for the Italian side as well, now that I'm Italy. But I haven't been able to find any family on my Great Great Grandmother's side - too many information gaps sadly. I think they may have been illiterate, and Canadians mispelled/improperly translated their names. How cool that you could go back as far as 1780! You're lucky!

Thanks for sharing. I'm also a Canadian. I have zero Italian blood line. 😐 I've visited Italy (Tuscany, Positano, Sicily x2) and I am no fool. I love it. Looking to see if we can be Part-time expats during retirement to do exactly what you mentioned. Be in a central area to visit Europe. I'm heading back to southern Italy in less than a couple of months to show my husband (he has never been with me on my Italy trips) what Italy has to offer. Starting in Sicily and going to see Calabria for the first time. We are very excited.

I’m planning on moving to Italy after college. I am also Canadian and I have no idea how I am going to do it. I’m going to be alone because I don’t have any family in Italy and also no money. I was wondering if you have any advice for someone like me.
@TheModernHippieProject2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Yes I do: Stay in a larger city centre, find yourself an expat community and build your online skill set for work just in case you can’t obtain an Italian work visa/find work in Italy. You will need some savings in order to get any kind of extended visa, as an FYI! 😊 And good luck! I hope Italy is all that you hope and need it to be 😉
@Me-gs3uu2 жыл бұрын
@@TheModernHippieProject what type of online skill set do you mean. And about how much should I be saving if I were to go there in maybe three years. Also by larger city centre do you mean Rome, Venice, Naples because I think those cities would be even more expensive than the others.
@TheModernHippieProject2 жыл бұрын
@@Me-gs3uu Hone skills that would allow you to work online. I’d look for remote work positions, or freelancing. As for savings, I can’t really answer that question for you. Everyone lives a different life with their own lifestyle preferences. The government would want to see a large savings in your account if you were to obtain a visa though - I’d say €5.000 at least. And as for city, it doesn’t have to be a metropolis. Population of 150k+ should be sufficient enough. Where you can easily access the transit/train system and get around speaking English.
