There is this good video of Finland being total underdog in 2019 Hockey WC. when we had 15+ rookies in our team and did beat every single "hockey nation" Title: 'Never Forget' - Leijonat 2019 (re-up)

I would say that at the moment we are living the best era of the Finnish hockey players in NHL, even tho we had Kurri, Tikkanen, Selänne, Koivu, Lehtinen etc. Atm we have the best two-way team captain who won the stanley, the Finnish mafia in Dallas and a HUGE amount of talents in there. Also ofc you shouldn't forget the best player in the world Sebastian "The Professor" Aho ^^ much love from Finland!

I hope you guys did understand that this video was made only halfly seriously. Starting from the "rally English" accent everything was kinda like a skit with surprisingly well thought points in the middle 😄

Have you seen or reacted to the famous finnish comedian ISMO LEIKOLA? He made his US debut in 2014 at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood where he won the title of “The Funniest Person in the World.”

You did care about the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and USSR, though. Then there was the 1980 Winter Olympics "Miracle on Ice". And that's were also Finland's love for ice hockey partly lies-a chance to beat neighboring and bigger countries. That's also one reason why NHL doesn't want to take part in the World Championships-it makes the NHL look bad when Finland without NHL players beats teams stacked with some of the best NHL players. Obviously you aren't going to give the tournament much credit after that kind of miracle on ice: "'Never Forget' - Leijonat 2019 (re-up)". Also, ice skates are believed to originate from Finland region.

The best Finnish players are all in the NHL already. There a reason why old NHLer go play in Swedish and Finnish elite league when they are no longer good enough for the NHL...
@finnishculturalchannelАй бұрын
@@MaxSujyNorden Best players don't necessarily make the best teams-as E.g. the WC 2019 showed. On paper Mikko Rantanen is a great player. In WC 2023 tournament he didn't score a single goal for Finland. The best Finnish scorers were players playing in Europe-and this didn't even come as a surprise. The number one reason why players come to play in Sweden and Finland is that they often become better players here. Take E.g. Tim Thomas.
@MaxSujyNordenАй бұрын
Huh no. Players go to Elite European league (Sweden, Finland, KHL, etc) when they are either too old, or not ready for the NHL. Goaltenders tend to take much longer to be ready to be a starter. Rare to see early 20s goaltenders as starters. And as said before, the WC is not an important competition for most NHLer. I don't think you understand how insignificant the WC is for NHLer.
@finnishculturalchannelАй бұрын
@@MaxSujyNorden There's not that much demand for 40 plus year old NHL players in Finland either. They aren't going to able to keep up or get any better here. Likes of Tim Thomas and Brian Rafalski become better players here. Obviously they got better than some NHL players were since they got signed to NHL teams. Clearly the idea that all the time the best players in the world play in NHL is delusional. Some European players don't even want to live in North America or play in NHL. Of course E.g. WC 2019 was important for a whole heap of elite NHL players. Or do you think that the top Swedish and Russian NHL players came to the tournament not caring whether they lose to a bunch of nobody Finnish players? Or that the NHL teams want see that for that matter?

Hockey is a sport of gentlemen and bigger than life players from Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech, Slovakia, Latvia, few German's, etc. NHL today is closer to European hockey. NHL is really popular in Europe too.

No Lord Stanley in Canada since 1993 😉 Finnish captain just made history and hoisted the cup, nice to see some success under Finnish leadership.

For a player Stanley cup might be the highest. Olympics best against best as a national team usually Canada wins but not always. Do you know why? I can tell you. You pick up the best players and not the best players in 3rd and 4th line. Defense is part of the game. As national teams best against the best is always better than NHL. What a crying if you lose some tournament. Canadians aren't very good losers.
