Hey! I'm Alanna - a twenty-something documenting my life as a Canadian living in England.
I share the ups and downs of an expat living abroad and what it's really like living in the UK. It's not always easy, but there's been so many wonderful experiences, too. I post a KZbin video every Tuesday & Friday plus an additional video every Saturday on my Patreon account. I also livestream every Wednesday and Sunday at 5:30pm GMT on Twitch.

When I was a kid about 70 years ago the 'white sticks' actually had a red tip and were actually called 'candy cigarettes'. It was only after the anti-smoking campaign started that they stopped calling them this. We also were able to buy 'candy tobacco'. Long strings of coconut covered in cocoa powder and sugar.

In the UK they were called sweet cigarettes and came in a pack that looked like a pack of 10 cigarettes, even had a 'cigarette card' inside. There was also chewing gum ones wrapped in a 'cigarette' paper. The good old days when PC was a copper and Health & Safety didn't exist. Just common sense.

Those candy sticks that Canadian bairns pretended were cigarettes? When I was a wee laddie, many, many years ago in Scotland they were actually marketed as 'sweet cigarettes'! They even had one end dyed red for the full effect. It seemed perfectly normal at the time... Edited just to say that I literally burst out laughing when you discovered the liquid in the camel bollock. Always worth watching an Adventures and Naps video right to the end- that's where the good tuff is!

The knick knacks are hardly weird you can buy them in Tesco's and ASDA and Sainsbury's, in fact just about everywhere they are and mainstream snack if there is such a thing, the waste candy sticks used to be sold as sweet cigarettes and with marketed towards children as such, the best shandy in a can comes from Bass breweries, it comes from 50s and 60s English culture where children always wanted to try adult things so a whole generation grew up on imitation cigarettes and booze such as shandy and ginger beer

If you go back to the same corner store see if they have Bobby's Onion Rings. Hands down the best Onion Ring crisps in the UK and almost no one outside random corner shops sells them.

Rib 'n Saucy is definitely the best flavour of Nik-Naks, though the Scampi & Lemon comes a close second for me.

I recall you used to be able to buy packs of the little tattoos when I was a kid...such when you were young....Now a middle aged adult...I do happen to have a single tattoo which I got in and to remind me of my more youthful days...hahaha!...Thing is I don't wear t-shirts to show it off like most who have tattoos..as I got it for me..not for everyone else. So it stays covered..(Top of left arm).

Another brilliant start to the week! But is there such a thing as an unnecessary A+N Taste Test? I think not...

Cheers, lovely Alanna! I have been following you since 2020 and I have learned so much from you and had a really nice “and delicious - with your “eat&drink this” rubric” time! I forgot how I came across your videos but I have never regretted it! Keep it up to 500 000 subscribers! 💖💖💖

I've been watching from the beginning and re-watch that scampi Nik-nak video regularly. funniest thing ever. Bar shandyade is the best and I have it often after a hot long day. super refreshing drink.

I luv all Nik Naks, but my fave has to be nice n spicy. With the Bobbys crisps, I usually luv anything bbq flavour, but those sticky bbq ones I am not a big fan of. The bbq mix ones Bobbys do which have different type of shapes in them are amazing though. Also luv the Bobbys prawn cocktail twists.

I’ve never heard of Camel Balls sweets before and I’m not sure I would have put them in my mouth if I had. Sounds like something from a Bush Tucker Trial 😂

Don't you just love our girl, tries something weird...pulls the same face you pull when you find something unspeakable on the sole of your shoe, then takes another bite! 🤣 Alanna now knows what 'indelible' means in relation to stick on tatts..arrggghh...they won't wash off! 🤣🤣🤣🤣...I sooo look forwards to these posts. 🥰
