I’m from England but my mother was from Derry in the north west of the island so I know that area quite well. This summer I’m planning to bring the car over and enjoy The central west coast ( Galway to Sligo) and hopefully parts of the Shannon. Next trip will definitely be the south west.

Love to visit Ireland one day, my grandparents had extended family over there and it's just beautiful.

I'm English, but I've been to Ireland three times. Used to the wonderful greens of England, I have to admit Ireland has even more intense green. It is rightly called the Emerald Isle. There are three major Boyne tombs ( Bru na Boinne). You missed that they are five thousand years old - older than the Pyramids. The fascia of New Grange has been repaired, but the inside is as it was. I think that it was in one of them that they discovered a body, buried with honour. Now a detailed DNA study of the general population of Ireland at that time shows a surprising degree of variation; it was likely that they practised exogamy, i.e.you had to marry outside your clan, a common practice in primitive societies. But the honoured burial was totally different. It was clear that he was the product of massive inbreeding. It looks as if they were ruled by priest-kings, so sacred that they could only marry their own kin, like the Pharoahs of Egypt. Making drystone walls is a major craft in our islands, for example in northern England. There are many who still do it, and, with your interests, you should look it up. You have to be strong!

Thank you Jonathan, I was just about to comment on his mistake, because he was not listening (Americans!/Canadians) 🤣🤣, as my Dad used to say Two Ears and One Mouth (use the ratio, listen more and talk less) 🤣🤣 Cheers Jonathan, love from Ireland

As for feeling emotional when viewing some of this old and ancient stuff, yep sometimes, i think it's when you realise our ancestors were the ones doing all this hundreds and sometimes thousands of years ago, I'd guess some of your ancestry comes from the British isles as well, and certainly mainland europe too, just like me, and it does hit you like that occasionally.

Dry stone walls are still built and repaired today, there’s lots around me in the Lake District and Lancashire and Yorkshire etc etc.
@pi18727 ай бұрын
Thats crazy thay still build them. There are some real workers over there. It will be really hard to get anyone to do that here .
@Joseph13163Ай бұрын
You just assume that is the case in ireland ,it is but i am irish i know.

If your interested in how Dry stone walls are built and the different regional types there is a channel called Dry stone TV. The walls have been around for centuries.

oof - I have to say - I really disagree with 14:25 "It would be pretty sweet to cut one off and make an end table out of it" - if everyone had that sort of idea, this place of outstanding natural beauty would be ruined. leave it alone, admire it, and leave it for generations to be :)
@pi18727 ай бұрын
I'm not saying I'd do that. I just thought they would make neat end tables. Obviously if everyone did that it not be good sorry for thinking out load .

@@pi1872 That thing about round towers being a defence against vikings is monsense they were built as bell towers for the churches and that particular round tower was built long after the viking raids,so you were right it would have been a terrible place to go in a viking raid

Fantastic place, Ireland. This doesn't do it justice at all. Great pity the narrator can't pronounce the place names - did they even try and find out? Please look at a video produced in Ireland or UK for real information on these places.

If you want details of anything shown on videos - don't choose any with USA narraters. A lot of place names will be pronounced wrongly and any facts mentioned will be incorrect. Plenty of informational videos are availlable for countries in the UK, as we are very good at promoting ourselves. Tourism is a serious business in the whole of the British Isles and you should dig a bit deeper before settling for inferiour clips. Regards from Halifax, Yorkshire, UK.
