Even your example you had to specify a "nice" bit of steak which I'm assuming is referring to the fact not all steaks do deserve to be eaten naked. plus you will most likely find that there is some sort of rub or season that it would have been cooked or prepared with. trust me were not having a go. were just saying next time you have a sausage roll Australia recommends adding sauce lol

Nice video, Robert. Glad you enjoyed the experience. Just to clarify some of the things you mentioned (I suspect you picked a lot of this up during he game, but since you didn't mention it in the video, here you go): The scores are displayed as goals, behinds, points. Goals = 6 points, behinds = 1 point. In the game you watched, Carton scored 9 goals, 11 behinds, so that is 9 x 6 = 54 + 11 = 65 points. There are actually 10 umpires on the ground: 4 field umpires (1 inside each 50 m arc and 2 across midfield), 4 boundary umpires (2 either side) and 2 goal umpires (1 at either end). You don't have to catch (we would say mark) the ball inside the 50 m arc to attempt to score a goal. As long as you kick it through the goals (between the goal posts) without the ball touching any other player, it is a goal. This can be from a mark but also from general play and can be kicked from inside or outside (obviously this is rarer) the 50 m arc. The umpire whistling all the time relates to the fact that the whistle is blown every time a mark is taken, since the player can choose to take an unimpeded kick or play on, as well as when free kicks are awarded. Love the way you got stuck into the food. A tip, if I may: try having a sausage roll (if you can be bothered trying it again) or pie with tomato sauce (ketchup). It sets off the taste nicely. Interesting that you thought everything was reasonably priced. I always think it is pretty expensive. Things must cost a lot in Canada. If you get the chance, I recommend trying to get to a game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG or just "the G", as locals know it). It has quite a different feel to Marvel Stadium. It is more historic (although rebuilt many times over the years, so a bit like the ancient family axe which as had three new heads and four new handles!) and much larger, with a capacity of 100,000. If you want to brush up on the laws of the game, here are a couple of "What is AFL" videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jn69io2ZpKaWi5I, kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5C2opmEg8ubo68

The sausage roll was dry because you needed tomato sauce, the prices of the food and alcohol are considered expensive. Next time go to the MCG, you definitely need a jacket. The scoreboard reads, first number is the number of goals so you times that by six the second number is the number of behind and that is times by one you add that together and that’s the total score that you will see at the end of the scoreboard. You need that many umpires because the oval is so big. Have fun in Australia.

Mate, whenever you buy a meat pie or sausage roll, never forget the 'dead horse' (tomato sauce), it's traditional. So glad that you went for my team of Carlton but sorry we didn't come through for you this time. Tomorrow is a big match against our greatest rivals in Collingwood at the MCG. If you're still in town, not one to miss. The atmoshere will be much greater than this was. Carlton and Collingwood are two suburbs within Melbourne and two of the oldest clubs, along with the others who started off tge league initially. It may have been helpful to look up the basic rules of the game, especially in regards to scoring which would have helped you out tremendously. There needs to be umpires around the ground due to so much action that goes on between players behind play. The game doesn't flow like it used to in much earlier times. There used to be much more kicking and less handballs. This has definitely had an effect on the flow of the game. Too much fumbling of the ball and not enough kicking involved now. With more umpires on the ground, they get to see much more and will stop play on most occasions instead of letting it play on. Go the Blues for tomorrow!🇦🇺💙

I mean I did the no prior knowledge because it’s rare for me to walk into a venue and not understand anything so I wanted to get my genuine reaction but after working in sport for like 12 years now you do tend to pick up on things quick!! Hahaha yeah I tend to just keep it neutral but if I want a souvenir I buy from the home team to keep things simple!

Randomly came across your video, glad you checked out our AFL, yes it can be confusing if you've never seen a game before but glad you were starting to understand the way the game works. I agree with others here need some tomato sauce on the sausage roll there mate. Also, I would suggest trying to watch some more games even if it's on TV. Oh, and we call a catch a mark and you can take one anywhere on the ground.

For the scoreboard: 1st number is how many goals they kick (times that number by 6) 2nd number is how many behinds and the 3rd number is the total score.

I think that take away food from any public event concession tends to be pretty ordinary at best. All those things - pie, sausage roll, beer - can all be found cheaper and better tasting at other places where you are not the captive of being in a venue.
@RobertGreeleyАй бұрын
Some stadiums have definitely gotten more unique with their concession offerings though!

For the part u were confused about the first number is the amount of goals which are worth 6 points and the 2nd number is the behinds which are worth 1 point and the last one is the overall scores

Wow a nine for a four and twenty pie - thats a high scrore! That brand is ok for every day cheap type pies and sausage rolls. To say youve eaten an Aussie meat pie and/or sausage roll you really need to try one at a pub or a home style bakery. They generally make their own and youll be scoring them 99. So glad you enjoyed the match!

One goal between the two big sticks is worth 6 points, one miss or behind between either one of the small sticks and big sticks is worth 1 point. The ball has to be kicked by the scoring end’s team through the two big sticks to be a goal, however if it is touched, tapped through or kicked through the two big sticks by an opposition defender, it is only worth 1 point. So 117 points to 0, is actually 1 goal 1 behind = 7 plays 0.

You probably know this already but there was a Canadian national rugby player named Mike Pyke who played 110 AFL games with Sydney going back about 10-15 years. Also an American (Mason Cox) playing for Collingwood. Hopefully we see more coming in in the future.

As being a melbournien my self when you though it was 117 points it was 1 goal and 1 point and the total score was 7 points when you kick through the middle it’s 6 points if you kick through the sides it’s a point. Loved the video.

Good on ya for going into the game 'blind'. Even knowing some of the rules & scoring details would have taken away the authenticity of your introduction to the game. None of the things you mentioned were silly for a genuine first timer. As you were chewing on that sausage roll the first thing I thought was "he'll say it's dry!" 😂 Ha ha correct. Yeah you gotta have tomato sauce. Also - you're right about the severe reduction in heavy hits these days. The game's lawmakers have ensured that is largely a thing of the past. It's upset many fans, but they are petrified of concussions and the legal ramifications down the track. The true big hits of Aussie Rules football can only be found on KZbin these days. Good onya for travelling to Straya and enjoying a game.

There are no rules associated with those blue arcs. They are there for viewer experience, to give an indication that a shot from within is often within scoring range.

So the scoring reads like this ; The first number for a goal ,which is six points. The second number reads as a single point . The third number reads as the total points total. You are welcome in Geraldton , West Australia.
