Holy crap man, you didn’t focus on academics that much but still got high 90s in ur second sem of gr 11...how did you do that? Any tips? Cause I’m a gr 11 student currently and I’m only getting mid 80s. For ecs, I’m in hosa law club, model un and deca. I also teach basic graphic designing, and am planning to run for student president in gr 12. but my grades are sort of lacking, and I’m trying to fix that as soon as possible. Do you have tips on how to study for like physics math or chem? And possibly cs?(I have it this quadmester and I was wondering what the difficult level was for this course).
@NelsonLeeYT4 жыл бұрын
Those are excellent extracurricular activities and good luck on your Student Council run. For me, one of the best ways to study is to pay attention during class time and then that night, briefly review what was taught. When you do that, what you learn sinks in earlier. Then, the nights before the test I would go over my notes, do extra problems and more. I know you got this!

Grade 11 right now, this quadmester gave me functions and chemistry and the marks are not looking too good as it's very hectic, wondering if unis would consider the grade 11 marks as a possible changing factor
@NelsonLeeYT3 жыл бұрын
No they won't be a deciding factor! Only if you're applying earlier and want to receive your acceptance in February of Grade 12.

How do you maintain such high grades? I tend to lose motivation pretty easily and I’ve been trying out different methods yet none of them have been sticking to me. My grades are high 80’s thus far in grade 11, however, I’m not satisfied with them. Any advice? Also what resources did you use for your courses? The courses I’m going to take are physics, chemistry, biology, calculus, english and advanced functions. My teachers hasn’t been the greatest of help and it’s mostly through independent learning that I’ve gotten through. Any references would be much appreciated! :) Hope uni has been going well for you by the way!
@NelsonLeeYT3 жыл бұрын
Independent learning is super good, especially in university! For high school, I would recommend Khan Academy and reading provided textbooks and free textbooks online. However, it's not only important to read the textbook, but to comprehend it. Learning methods depend on what type of learner you are. If you're a conceptual learner, you might understand a physics concept through an equation. Some people might need to look at a worked example to understand. For me, I like working backwards from the solution. It's up to you, but knowing your best method of learning will help you a lot this year, in Grade 12, and especially in university where you are mostly left on your own devices. Hope that helps!

Hey Nelson, great video. I'm a grade 11 student going into grade 12 this fall and as you can imagine, I'm mad stressed. Can't even sleep at night. Most of my marks in Grade 11 were in the range of 85-88. How do you suggest I maximize my grades? I'm willing to work my ass off but my guidance counselor/teachers aren't much help.

Hey Nelson, loved your video! Little about me, I just started grade 12 year a month ago and I am currently looking towards applying to computer/ software engineering programs as well as health science programs. The competitive averages for these programs are around the 94-96 range. Right now, my overall average is around 90-91 and I am looking to boost my average up this last year, but I am realizing that just putting in more effort or working harder will not be the best strategy. What would you suggest I do to boost my grade by 5-6%? Any advice would be much appreciated!

You still got time! Figure out which method of studying works for you. If you get distracted easily by things such as KZbin or TikTok, consider deleting it until Winter Break. It’s going to be a hard grind for the next few months but it’ll be worth it!

Hey, I am looking to get into Waterloo Engineering, but I am afraid I dont have as much extra curriculars as others do. I am still in grade 11 so I have one more year. I was in a council in grade 9 and have taught dance classes at my studio after learning there for over a decade. It is probaby too late to be in an exec position until next year in another club. What clubs did you join when you were in high school?
@NelsonLeeYT4 жыл бұрын
Hi sorry for the late reply! Just remember extra curricular activities are not mandatory for most programs. If your program does require it, having some executive level positions for a club/team you're passionate about or is related to your program of choice is helpful. You can check out my extra curricular video to see what I was involved in!

Just an addition to that, I’m currently a grade 12 student who got accepted to waterloo for computer engineering! I did not do much extracurricular activities. The only things I did were volunteering at church, which were at one church so not that diverse ay? So don’t worry. What waterloo looks at will be your marks and your AIF!!! Even if you have a small amount of extracurricular activities if you write well about them and what you learnt, etc. it’ll be fine. Also, always do the “optional” video interview!! That’s what they look at too!!!
