Okay let me clarify. When I was talking about MediEvil NOT being on the PSN I meant for the PS4. And yes I apologize for not mentioning you could get it on the PS3 PSN store. You can also get this reward by just resting the souls and not getting the chalices. I assumed because in my review playthrough I 100%ed the game and thought that was the completion award. My apologies.

@@waled7564 Well sure, *it is.* Because the original was something special a in qualities of it's game play and it's atmosphere was so magical and Gothic and fun, which newer gamers never got the chance to experience playing the original. But I'm hoping in this case, they'll appreciate the original and why it's such a classic gem of a game.

I don't think Activision can add the emulation versions of Spyro and Crash Bandicoot because Sony owns the licenses of the digital PS1 classic versions in the PS Store right now. 🤔

That would be way too hard to do, Sony still has some publishing rights for the originals and Insomniac was still the developers of those games, so Activison would have to give shares of the profits to them. Same with the original Crash games and Naughty Dog.

The game was available in Ps3 very early after the introduction of ps+ through ps+ so the info in this video about it not being available past ps1 isnt quite correct.

I sort of wished Vicarious Visions for the Crash Trilogy and Toys for Bob for Spyro Trilogy could have released the original PS1 versions of all the games associated with each remake in the bundle if you 100% them but they can't do that because Sony's logos are all over that (they could of possibly have done it only on the PS4 versions). If were hoping for a multiplatform release of the new Medievil remake, ain't going to happen as this secret confirms it isn't going multiplatform any time soon at all (since the remake was done by Sony as well). If it was not and the IP was not own by Sony, it might have gone multiplatform but we would not have gotten this secret

They have since added a PS1 port on the PS4 store with its own trophy list (on April 2024). I wonder if there's a difference between the separate, trophy-endowed port and the one you find built into the remake.

Got the Platinum for this last weekend after just over a day's play and really enjoyed the game. I'd played the original on the PS1 back in the day and could recall a handful of levels but the lost souls was a fun if easy addition to the game. Overall the game was great fun with loads of charm, wit and great characters though I couldn't help think how utterly awesome a true reboot of the franchise would be. Nevertheless I'm glad I played the game as, despite its flaws, it still delivered a solid experience and one I'll no doubt revisit somewhere down the line. As for flaws the camera was still on the shitty side with the much hyped Dan Cam being a complete dead loss as it was locked for so many occasions when I wanted a clearer view and didn't really help much in others. The platforming was a bit of a nightmare and I lost a fair share of lives for missing a jump by a few pixels. Fortunately there was less than I'd remembered so overall it didn't overly affect the game. Yes, it felt like a PS1 game and though visually improved didn't come close to recent remakes like Spyro and Crash but, as already mentioned, the overall game was a ghoulishly great affair and one I'd definitely recommend for fans of the original and gamers who just fancy a retro resurrection of a much loved game ...

Just picked up this game. Never knew it came out on PS4. I never owned it back in the day but I do remember playing a demo of it on a PS Underground sampler disc. Late nineties ...somewhere around that time.

i mean it makes sense to do that since unlike the Spyro/Crash remakes, its a single game not a package. So it has the space to do this. Spyro/Crash are a bit packed with all 3 games so they kinda cant do that. Also the original PS1 games of them dont necessarily use the same assets either so they'd take more room than you'd think.

A PS1 game takes around 700MB at best. Not knowing how MediEvil did this, but one would assume it's just emulation of some sort. Meanwhile, Spyro games seem to take around 600MB each, while Crash games take 600MB (the first game has data padding, the actual thing is around 200MB) around 250MB and around 330MB. Not a lot. Fitting that with all the other data shouldn't be too hard to achieve.

It is big surprise and a nice touch, my question for this thou, is the original ported or emulated? As on a EU the splash screen says "Sony Entertainment Europe" which would mean that the og is running at 25/50fps which could be a bummer depending if it was correctly synced to that frame rate. Plus Other Oceans did nothing to smooth the original it looks rough as hell, better just play it on a emulator, to slightly improve the visuals.
