Canadiens Need More MOVES!!
#nhl
Marko and Franck, during the Canadiens Notebook Show, discuss the Montreal Canadiens' need for more moves to secure a top 6 player.
They express concerns about Kirby Dach and believe the Canadiens could find a player on the trade market during the summer of 2024.
The three players they target are Patrik Laine, Martin Necas, and Rutger McGroarty. They debate and have different opinions on which one the Canadiens should trade for.
Habs fans, watch the video to the end to find out their opinions, and don't forget to subscribe and click like. Every day, we deliver a Habs Daily News video about your favorite team, the Montreal Canadiens.

I can’t see any reason for the Habs to add anyone, whether by trade or FA. The build isn’t done yet. The only movement I’d want to see is players being moved out for future assets (2026 1st round picks would be preferred). Anderson, Matheson, Harris would be the players I’d be looking to move. With Matheson being the most valuable trade chip. I’d like to see Habs make some positive progression this year, but it needs to be with what we already have on the roster. We need to see what players like Dach and Newhook bring to the table. We need to see what Roy, Beck bring to the table. We need to see what Hutson and Maileaux bring to the defence. We need a real look into our current and upcoming roster players before we bring in any outside help

Thanks for watching. I agree that this year is all abou assessing the assets they have (Dach in particular)...this whole thing is hinged on him being a 2nd line C...Where I don't agree is that Habs are stil in asset collection mode. They have enough assets- time to start constructing a roster. Winning rosters usually have a blend of drafted players, trades and UFA...Panthers for example.

@@markolarabie6685 I don’t think we’re far off from one another, only I think we’re one year away from building through trades and FA. We start bringing in bodies now and it’s just going to take away opportunities to evaluate what we already have. As well, it will eat up cap space. One more season and our young roster players will be one season older and wiser, our rookies will have a season under their belts and some of our bad contracts will either be off the books, or closer to it. Also, Demidov will be joining the team next season (most likely). For me, that’s when I would be looking to fill out the team. And when it comes to future assets, I don’t think you can ever have too many. Whether you’re keeping/developing them or using them in trades to get better that way, the more you have the better off you are. So often you see teams start off on the right foot, only to abandon the build too soon. A couple of great (current) examples of this would be Detroit and Toronto. Toronto abandoned their rebuild way too soon (practically never had one) and Detroit looked like they were on the right track, but starting last offseason they appear to have gotten impatient. I just don’t want to see that here, not when we are this close

@@markolarabie6685 Also, as much as Habs wouldn’t be his number 1 or 2 choice, Crosby just might be up for grabs next season. If he is, I would like to see us in a position to at least take a legit swing at’em. Add Crosby to next years lineup, along with Demidov and we might just have something!

In the 'old days' (old guy here) a Habs player was coveted because they were so well trained, had won etc. Roy, Carbo, Keane, Gainey, Lemieux, Robinson, Lemaire, Laperriere all won cups after they left. Building through the draft was the only way to build but not for Bergevin, he wanted to win and left the cupboard empty. This has changed, it's a major part of the 10 year plan Hughes has mentioned and they're spending millions to bring in the top guys to draft and develop "the future" of this once mighty franchise. It's a basic business principle, if they bring players into the league while keeping the ones that fit onto a team built to play as a team and win as a team - and their salary structure shows they will "pay as a team" - long term they will do justice to this franchise. It's hard to see it, because they can't say anything obviously, but when the time comes the Habs will rise to glory. I firmly believe Demidov will be here this year because they have 7 prospects in Russia, so Montreal with it's prestige and historical importance HAS to establish a working relationship with all the teams, starting with CSA. I'm hoping anyway...lol

@@ubasic you nailed my friend. Same age like you lol Sam Pollock was very good for draft picks. I think a 7 years rebuilding is what my hope and vision for them. You give me an idea to do a video about it Thanks for your input today

Unless you have a no brainer trade, I'd give Anderson and Gallagher another go. Maybe a bottow 6 piece on a 1 year deal to be traded at deadline with Armia & Dvorak. Would keep next year draft pick, our target year is 27-28, next year draft could become an addition to 27-28 lineup at a cheap price tag.

They have 2 1st round picks to play with though ; ) Not sure i would trade Habs pick either- unless protected.

I think that the rebuild is very far from over. We still have many undersized players who would not survive the grind of a deep playoff run IMO.

Laine is the one for me. Will be cheaper and if on top of his game better then all the others. Realize major gamble but one that is worth it. Will be cheaper and we will know right away if it is going to work. He also knows the next 2 years will define his career. We are not the only team in the nhl with culture we are the team that talks about it the most. I think culture is what put Florida over the top. Yes I believe 1 player like a Carey Price can influence your team to be better and show your team what being a professional is all about but do not think our team would let somebody come in and make them worse without addressing it. Laine was second overall and played like it at the start. Injuries were not his fault it’s not something he made up. When we say a player is prone to injury we are really saying he is weak and something is lacking in his character. That’s the reason our Canadians had so many injuries playing through the injuries and paying for it. The other knock on Laine is he didn’t produce last season but still basically a point per game player. This while not being on top of his game. The worst that can happen is that he doesn’t perform for 2 years then we let him go UFA but if is does work we solved one of our main problems then go after that big time UFA next year or ,the year after.
Do you think the Canadiens should make this move?
