Canal Fishing for ZANDER! (Lure fishing)

My first session targeting Zander in nearly 2 years! You can't catch Zander in the area where I live so I had to travel 100 miles to try find some! very tricky to catch when I filmed this (mid April) but I managed to sneak a few bites in to make it worth it!

#DB Fishing try summer evening sessions. Nothing can beat it. You were approx 2 miles away from the best zander spot in the area. Your 2nd spot is a dead strech of the canal with mink,and otter killing fish . I am more than happy to guid you one day,if you up for session with someone,who knows the area.

The little pike and zander are good signs, they multiply by themselves, my smallest pike last year had 15 cm on nightcrawler! I always think it can be 100 cm long! Thumbs up Dan!

@@pikeandperch i had loads on sweden, but non here YET. PB at 4.5kilo. Went fishing perch and ended up with 1 perch, 2 pike and 13 zander 😂 zander pro is out now on kanalgratis youtube chanel

I'd use 3-5 inch lures for zander, on light jigs to give them a slow drop. That seemed to work best. Nice to see a zander vid again. My fav fish.

@@pikeandperch it’s April, or was when the video was recorded, thus the Zander are either started to spawn or preparing to. It does not mean they are difficult to catch just that you have to look for them in different areas than normal.

Caught lots of zander towards them locks. Wicked bream there as well. Apparently napton further up from off church is wicked too. I’ve been trying for a pike on the canal and I live here and nothing 🤣🤣

nice one pal! there are loads of monsters in river trent. seen photos of 15-17lb zanders caught on lures. when season opens back up its worth giving it a go, probably an hour drive for you.

I've seen a few pictures of a polish angler catching several mid doubles from the Trent on lures, everybody is hush hush about it, you can't blame them to be honest! How about the Trent & Mersey canal???

Well done on the zander catch and release. Always cut about a rod length of line after each session. Seems to stop it snapping. Especially braid. Good vid. Cheers dan 🤓👍🏻

Mate you did very well to catch 3 Zander, I was on there the other day and only had one small one the size of your first one. There's some big ones in the Great Ouse, but they can be very difficult to locate, I lost a double at the net last season to say I was gutted is an understatement!!! Next time she won't get away :)

Hiya Dan. Nice vid. My go to retrieve for of Z's is slow rolling a small jig. Couldn't believe it 1st time it worked as generally its rise and fall with long pauses (which does work tbf) but a light jig (under 2g) on a 50mm shad works well for me. I recognise that '2nd' spot. Nails fishing but yes the fish tend to be bigger so I'm told although I've only had little uns from there. Keep it up fella - such a shame about the butter fingers :)

Local to me too, a had a 6lber recently not far from where you were at the end, I use deadbaits though. Best 9lb thus far. They have been off though so not really moving, lots of cold mornings not helping you did well to catch a few,

@@pikeandperch NO I haven’t so far lure fishing, it is very grubby on the bottom. . It used to be brilliant course fishing back in the day. My lads had some zander and bigger like than you did further down the bank. Have you tried around the two boats at Stockton. It’s around 3 mile away.

I have quite a bit of luck on the Union for zander. It is very hard going sometimes. I know couple of good locations if you are interested

@@pikeandperch its good for zander there my Mrs has been doing really well there catching zander between 2 and 4lb nearly every session! She also had a 2lb 14oz perch on her last session and lost a 6lbish zander at the net! She was gutted!
