You take you chances. I can't begrudge them wanting the sun visor down. They have to work an entire shift and not get eye strain. Some drivers object, often quite forcefully if you stick a camera behind their back. I suspect all the Canberra drivers had been 'briefed' on dealing with people wanting to film the road ahead. i.e. do your best to ignore them as if you make a scene someone will post it on 'social media'. As a heritage tram driver, being filmed 'at work' is just part of the job.

I agree! The driver has a perfect right to have the screen wherever he wants it, as a heritage driver you do have to grin and bear it. Last Wed. we had a strange man with a tablet that wanted to keep sticking it in our faces, maybe he thought he was there to interview us.

it's the glare of the sun. as a driver you want it as dark as possible to improve your vision for focus and concentration.@@listohan

No, he had 'released' them but the people outside stood there staring and the door instead of pressing the door open button. When he realised this was the case, he operated the 'open on release' button.

@@MatthewGeier thanks for replying. Is there a protocol as to when the driver releases the door or opens them him/herself? In Sydney I think the driver always opens it

@@Roadrunnerz45That's because it's been found that Sydney commuters are in general too stupid to press door open buttons. The hired Urbos 2 didn't have an 'open on release' mode and there were complaints about the doors not opening. People stood there staring at the notice saying 'press button to open door' waiting for the door to open by itself.

is that even a passenger stop where the driver changeover happened? if not surely it can happen at a station rather than increasing the travel time? it was poorly designed for the depot to be away from a station if so

Apparently the public stop at that location got deleted from the project to save money - the track splays out to accommodate the non existent station. The people who work in the adjacent light industrial zone are apparently not impressed about the lack of a stop there. They now say they will go back and put this stop in as part of the stage 2 package.

yes. of course now been built so that is where drivers do the change. glad they are getting on with stage 2a but it is going to take a while let alone the extension to woden. @@MatthewGeier

i took this recently and drivers still do the change midway. safer for them and easier, doesn't add much time either.
