A clear and very helpful video, thanks. I just purchased a granite triangle for this purpose. At first I thought I could use the sides of a small granite surface plate for alignment - nope! Turns out that while the top of a surface plate is flat, there is NO guaranty that any surface (top, bottom, or sides) are square to any other. Learned that when two small surface plates were placed face-to-face, sat them on-edge onto a third surface place, and the faces rocked back from each other by about 0.05"!

Oh for sure. We actually had our granite put on a $100,000+ Hexagon CMM to confirm the granites squareness. Now obviously not everyone has this ability, but when dealing with squaring the machines, we need to make sure our granite tri-squares are indeed square. - Alexander
