Makes me wonder what sort of mass extinction could take out unicorns and pegasi but leave earth ponies in existence. Hm, that makes me wonder how the earth ponies could survive without the other two races' powers controlling the earth. Maybe the Everfree Forest had it right all along?

I always thought it would make a good episode to have an earth pony character (doesn't have to be the mane 6) frustrated with the fact he/she doesn't have wings or magical ability, and that they try to find a way to change that. Only to realize their true talents laid inside within them, and not so much that they ever lacked anything to begin with. Not only that, I feel like earth ponies to "some extent" are able to do some forms of magic, such as potion making. However apparently Twilight downsided that trait by saying it was 'created' or 'fake' magic that anypony could do. But if you are good at potion making, like Zecora, then that should be considered a magic talent in its own right wouldn't you think? Anyways I just thought it'd make a good story for an earth pony to be jealous of not having magic or flying, but find the light within them to realize they are just as special as any unicorn or pegasi.

Earth ponies are probably much more able to cope with change as well. Imagine if a unicorn could no longer use his or her horn for some reason: he or she would have a hard time coping most likely, having to learn how to use your hooves in the place of levitation or a Pegasus having to learn to just walk rather than fly. Earth ponies are used to not flying or levitating objects, they would be less devestated having to cope with a large change

I think it's also the fact that they don't have them that accredits so many of them having many diverse talents. We also tend to see more nebulous concepts stapled to an earth pony's talent. Rather than relying on wings and magic, they instead have a far greater pool of potential for personal growth...in my eyes.

My oc is an earth pony and I choose this for the fact that I couldn't see my character flying or using magic. I find that an oc is an extension of a some pony and that represents a part of them. It's also great to now that there are more earth pony oc's than I thought.

Earth Pony magic is certainly the least overt of the three main tribes. It includes: 1) Deep connection to the earth and everything found within; 2) Increased strength; 3) Increased endurance. I do not include 'Indomitable Will' in this because members of the other races have been able to display it, and other than high strength displayed by other ponies like Rainbow Dash, other members of the other races seem to have these traits in more limited qualities. I do believe that Applejack is stronger than Dash, and she probably has higher endurance as well, from working the farm for most of her day every day. That said, it could be considered extraordinary that Dash is the second-strongest member of the Mane 6 physically, given her propensity for napping. Then again, Rarity has also shown physical strength by digging up 'Tom' and then carrying it. There is much to be said about how a pony's ponysonality can affect his or her innate brand of magic. The Apples are farmers 'to the core,' therefore their innate brand of magic would most likely manifest through their 'connection to the Earth' in a way that allows them to harvest more fruit. Pinkie Pie, on the other hand, has unique talent including 'Pinkie Sense' and her gravity bending that could be explained through her 'connection to the Earth.' Earth Ponies have also been shown to be extremely persistent, with a dislike toward quitting before the job is done. Because I have not noticed any Crystal Ponies that are also Unicorns or Pegasi, I am choosing to believe that they are a subset of Earth Pony, because one finds crystals in the Earth. We can take them two ways: 1) Crystal Ponies may have a deeper connection to the Earth because they are made of organic/biological crystal matter (in much the same way that Transformers are biological, organic machines), so they know even better than normal Earth Ponies where useful resources are buried. This would also explain how they can afford to build Crystal City almost entirely out of gemstones, not to mention building it so much further north than much of the rest of Equestria. 2) Crystal Ponies may have a deeper connection to the sky and astral matter. This would cause them to resonate more deeply with mana and any other magical energies, which relates to their ability to focus power into the Crystal Heart. We know that magic is often focused and related to emotion, and that the type of emotions reflected through the Crystal heart can spread throughout Equestria, so perhaps Crystal Ponies can also feel more deeply than their cousins. One's abilities would certainly shape one's choices in vocation: you would most likely decide your job on what you can do, not what you can't do. And even if you didn't enjoy that job, you would likely do it because it nets you the benefits you need. But in the Ponyverse, they also have cutie marks, which are determined by doing something one enjoys doing, and doing it well -- implying skill as well. I would say about half the time this skill might not have anything to do with one's race magic. Instead, it is a matter of skill or talent that pony has cultivated over time. That might explain how ponies like Mayor Mare and Hoity Toity got their jobs. Then again, Ponyville was founded by Earth Ponies. It makes sense for its mayor to be an Earth Pony with skills in public speaking, and everything else that makes a politician. Too bad she's not overly organized. That, apparently, takes a Unicorn. And speaking of Twilight Sparkle, I believe she has just one magic talent: "the ability to master any spell she witnesses or reads about." It's still just ONE skill, yet it encompasses everything she's done. People seem to often forget the illusion spell Rarity cast in 'Suited for Success' during her fashion show. I often wonder why she hasn't used it since. And by the way, I believe her special talent is "finding and evoking the beauty in an object or pony." I'm very much used to singular Talents: I read the Xanth series.

Now I honestly can't see myself as an earth pony (I see myself exclusively as a unicorn), but I've always had a respect for each of the pony races, and I certainly don't look down on earth ponies. Rather, I look up to them; they are such hard workers that it's inspiring. Especially the farmers.

My view on Earth ponies is that their main power is Harmony, both with with themselves and others. This Harmony can give them a special intuition or sense, help them figure things out faster, and help them be healthier and live longer (Granny Smith is a bit over 300 years old, after all). This also gives them a stronger connection with each other. Pegasus ponies seem to have very little familial connection, and Unicorn ponies seem to be overly immersed in study. For example, Twilight's relationship with her brother is a very close one by Unicorn Pony standards, but would be considered cold and distant by Earth Ponies. Lastly, even though Ponyville was founded by Earth Ponies, it is very much a place where all 3 tribes(?) can coexist, supporting their need for connectedness.

When I was a new brony, I was a Pegasus. Then I changed to a unicorn. I stayed a unicorn for at least two years before changing to a earth pony because, well, I really thought about it. I think of myself as the outdoorsy, down to earth, silly, weird and pessimistic type of person. These traits seem more earth pony to me. Besides, online quizzes never lie, lol. I have been an earth pony now for a month, and hopefully many many more. I believe that all the races can do anything they want if they try, although some have to try more than others. :)

My OC is a Changeling that was born with out a horn and therefore cannot cannot change into any creature with a horn. Because of this, she is picked on by other Changelings that have no physical limits. She usually takes the form of HER OC, Night Owl, a pegasus. She wishes she was more like the other Changelings in the Hive. Eventually, she goes to Twilight’s School of Friendship. And meets her friends. A creature from each tribe we know of. I just made my OC an Earth pony not because I admire earth ponies or like them...but because I wanted to stand out for not following the status quo. Everyone and their brother wants to be a unicorn or a pegasus because they have more abilities than earth ponies and make the OC cooler, and while yes, that is true that they're cooler, they also aren't unique. My entire OC's design philosophy can basically be boiled down into one sentence: "How can I make my pony look as plain and unremarkable as possible to avoid being deemed a bad OC while still looking somewhat eye-catching and visually appealing?"

this was a very cool video and it brought up some of the biggest thought I've had ever since entering the fandom,allow me to explain (yes this is possibly the stupidest thing you might ever read and for that i am sorry, and it's headcanon again i'm sorry). Even though I like unicorns, mainly because out of all the classes given in video games the mage is always my favorite, I've always found earth ponies to be like that one cryptic riddle that you try desperately to solve but can't (yea its crazy i know just work with me). Sure unicorns have magic and if one is dedicated enough like Twilight, they could train themselves in greater more powerful magic, maybe even to the point to which they surpass an alicorn, even shining armor knows a spell that the princesses don't, as seen in a canterlot wedding. As for the Pegasus race as seen in the show, we can clearly see that they are the main form of the equestrian military/airforce, since they are literally all over any important building(s) in canterlot. they are also used as they delivery service, since every time we see mail being delivered it's by a pegasus, another job of theirs being obviously weather duty, making it rain and whatnot. Now time for the topic of this comment the Earth Ponies, now in friendship is magic it's shown that the main job for earth Ponies is farming/gardening, other jobs being baking, construction, party planers,school teacher, and just whatever else is open, so basically hard grunt work ... hell in that one rarity ep there was an earth pony cleaning the windows. From this it looks like earth ponies are the lowest in society, not having the ability to do magic or fly, so it might make sense that they're at the bottom of the totem pole. But this also means that earth ponies have no extreme power to rely on, unicorns relying on magic and pegasi on flying. I think this just means that an earth pony must work harder than the other races if they want something to work just right and not just 'poof' it fixed like a unicorn might be able to, but instead have to go through much trial and error, and its with this that i have come to the conclusion that maybe there is much more to them then the show tells, sure they cant study the same magic as unicorns or fly like pegasi (YET) but that's all they have going for them magic and flight were as earth ponies can do everything, no not naturally but maybe mechanically, what if the entire race of earth ponies were always aware of their low standing in society and just chose to leave at that not knowing how to change it. one day somepony just had enough of basically being a *slave*, and wanted to change things so they went around gathering their fellow earth ponies telling them how they can change the social standing of the earth pony that ends with most of them leaving either doubting the idea or to think about if it will even work, whilst the rest of those who came to the gathering believe to work. what is this idea you ask, develop an invention that can help make earth pony lives easier. so anyway much trial and error ensues those who left the gathering come back at some point, and the final prototype is finished and the invention is ready to shown in public, and it's not taken well everyone else sees it as unnatural for an earth pony to have these new abilities. later on down the line a earth pony revolution starts and with them being more technologically advanced than everyone else. that's about it for now i was thinking of turning it into a fanfic but i suck at writing and im not so sure if anyone would want to see where this idea might go. what do you guys think.

My oc is an earth pony from ancient times, who got jealous of the unicorns, so FlameBlade tried to use magical gems to make him a unicorn, but instead they sent him forward in time to just after twilights ascension but right before equestria girls happened.(that's when I joined the fandom) I feel that he has an interesting back story with a lot of character development. tell me what you think, if my oc sucks i'll change it

cannedcream I think Earth ponies have much more of a job then the fandom realizes. look at sweet Apple acres. They provide food for ponyville, canterlot and they have to deal with the everfree forest. Look a zecora she's a zebra. it's quite possible to think her as a different race of earth ponies. no unicorns have gone into the forest expect for twilight. Fluttershy is the only Pegasus who has been their first. I always say that Fluttershy is using shyness to hide her true self because of something that happen in the past. and I think throughout the series Fluttershy went through the five stages of grief. the stare is the clue that shows us there is more to fluttershy. I was able to come up with this theory after watching drwolf's mlp mental breakdowns. Fluttershy has yet to have a mental breakdown.

My theory about how "generic" Earth Pony magic seems to be is that they are in fact the ancestors of both the pegasus and unicorn races. Creature tend to evolve into more specialized forms, and as long as that favors them, they prosper. When it doesn't, they become extinct. If all magic vanished, then the pegasus and unicorn would die out until such a time as magic returned, but the Earth Ponies will always remain. One could even say that the alicorn is somehow an even more evolved and specialized form of both the unicorn and the pegasus, so they'd go even sooner if magic vanished. That's why Tirek had to save draining the Earth Ponies for last, when his draining powers were at their peak.

if someone like me would be the only one not to be able to fly or use magic, it would take 20 years until i got a way to make others unable to use their powers. forever. ok, depends on how they react to me being not able to use magic or to fly. if they are nice, no problem, but if they are like: "go away, loser" and stuff, they would have a big problem. anyway, with the special talent of manipulation my OC can do spells like illusion very easily so it was able to make himself look like a pegasus when he needed to.

Don't forget Maud's super strength...RD can't compete. On another different note, the nouveau riche seems to generally consist of Earth ponies. The Oranges (AJ's Manehatten relatives) have a lifestyle of conspicuous consumption characteristic of nouveau riche (think Gatsby), and the way that they and their circle (all Earth ponies) deny knowing what roosters are (almost as if they were denying their roots). Filthy Rich is well, rich, but has nowhere the amount of prestige that Twilight's family has (Heck, there's a reason he's living in Ponyville. Even if it were his hometown, Diamond Tiara could probably get a better education in say, Canterlot if not for the unicorn prejudice there).

Adalia Taak My OC is also an Earth Pony. She is from Canterlot but being surrounded by unicorns all her life hasn't changed her opinion of who she is.... probably because her occupation wouldn't be affected in any way by magic or by flight. Her name is Honey Hugs.
