I personally really appreciate the fact that romance has been kept out of the series. There are many many lessons that this show can teach people and the lack of dependence on romance is one of them. One of the only brushes we've had was rarity and blueblood and rarity dropped him like a sack of hot potatoes when he turned out to be a huge asshole which is important because it forwards the idea of Independence from needing a relationship like that. Perhaps romance could be done in the show relatively well but I think that if they handle it, it would need to be a subversion of the usual tropes and emphasize the fact that it isn't NECESSARY and more than that, is something you can walk away from or do without. All too often shows present the idea that everyone needs romance, or love like that, and you don't. I mean, a portion of the population is aromantic or asexual, so clearly it's a factor. Love is fun, and it's good for ships, or fictions, or media, but its in so many other shows, I think MLP could do without

You almost lost me at 00:27 but definitely made up for it with how well thought out your analysis was and I liked the comparison with Adventure Time. The idea of having one of the mane 6 in a relationship could be interesting to see (and if it's Rarity than it would also be a good way to show Spike coming to terms with his own feelings). Though it might also be good to see one of the more common relationship types also shown as a way of contrasting between them

I think that Flash and Twilight would be a good pairing. Because if you look at Cadence and Shining Armor- it's a unicorn and an alicorn. Whereas Twilight and Flash- it's Alicorn and Pegasus. Which is a good opposite. Plus- Twilight and Flash show a good strong connection.

I think it would be especially great for MLP to tackle this because, much like a healthy friendship, a healthy romance must be based on a foundation of trust and respect between both individuals. Really, romance is like friendship ULTRA. You have the greatest romance when you start with a good friendship. A husband or wife is ideally a best friend that you live with for the rest of your life. One other topic that I feel like would be good to cover is a relationship gone wrong. A relationship where one of the 6's significant others gives too little and takes too much. Showing the situation, getting out of the situation, and the aftereffects of the situation. Honestly, I feel like Rainbow dash would be an interesting choice. Rainbow gets into a relationship with a stallion who is a bit too much like RD from Dragonshy, very pushy and insensitive. I just think that would be interesting and help a lot of people who do get stuck in those situations.

I probably take the most issue with Dash and Soarin, Discord seems too old for flutter shy, Pinkie and cheese could work, but I wonder if their similarities would be an obstacle to a healthy relationship, and Flashlight is really the only confirmed mutual crush. RD doesn't seem to have an interest in Soarin outside of the fact that he's a wonder bolt, except for the picture of them dancing at the wedding reception (which is never acknowledged by either character). However, I just don't know if I like Soarin at all as a character, I've seen him being defeated by spike (rather easily), knocked out by rarity, and easily fooled by his team mates and just sulks in his hospital room instead of getting up and at least going to cheer for them in the upcoming event. Sure Rarity was an accident and spike could be chalked up to poor dragon combat training, but the last couple of character knocks takes him out of the running for my favorite Mane 6 character. Plus he has a really annoying voice.

Oh I will not be making any friends with this comment(especially for the last one ehehehe) 1. Big Mac and Fluttershy. Reason? I think Mac could be that one pony(outside the mane six) that could help Fluttershy come out of her shell more. Also, I doubt Mac would push Shy too much, if he saw she was uncomfortable, he wouldn't make her do whatever it is their were doing.-Also....they look cute together. don't judge me- 2. Rarity and Spike. Reason? Spike's crush plays a big part in it, but, another part is if Spike does grow to actually love her(which I think is possible) and that, over time, Rarity will start to see Spike in a different light. Another thing is how the rest of the world would react to a pony and a dragon settling down. It might bring up some interesting story ideas(and it might affect Twilight and Rarity's relationship in a good way)...-Also...cause they're cute together.- 3. Cheese Sandwich and Pinkie Pie. Reason? Because Cheese is the only stallion I can see who would be able to keep up with Pinkie.....-and because they look cute together- 4. Soarin and Rainbow Dash. Reason?: Well, it mostly sterns from the fact that He's a wonder bolt....but, I would like to think Dash had a little crush on him, which later bloomed into full out love due to the time they spent together as wonder bolts(if it ever happens) also, much like with Cheese and Pinkie, can't really see any other stallion keeping up with Dash. And lastly....Flash Sentry and Twilight. Reason?: Potential. I see a great deal of potential for these two, specifically on Twilight's end. One of my (many) headcanons for this ship is that Twilight would be unsure if her feeling were for Flash are honestly for him or if she was just projecting her feelings from Brad onto him, causing her to push Flash away at times. Flash, being confused(and getting irritated) at Twilight's flip flopping, decides to just ask her right out what is going on. She tells him and she tells him she's not sure if she loves him(pony Flash) or Brad. Flash feels hurt by this. and their relationship because strained to the point were they break up for a time...a long time. They get back together after sorting some things out. But, yeah. I like flash and Twilight as a couple. not just because it's cute(it's a reason) or because of the "Knight and Royalty" thing(that's kind of a reason too) but because Flash is a blank slate and it presents a great deal of opportunity for him(and Twilight)...and that's why I like Flash/Twilight and Flash. Welp....I await the angry shit storm of comments. *Breaks out lawn chair, grabs a snack and drink, and sits back*

I'd personally have no problems with that as I don't see being gay or lesbian or bisexual as a big deal. I actually like the pairing of Twilight and Flash and find Flash to be a very good character. Sure, he's not exactly flushed out very well and could use more screen time, but in the small moments that we do see him is a very good character. And I see him being the ideal boyfriend to Twilight. Their personalities work well together, their color schemes are cute, and they really do seem like a perfect match. I even if they don't become a couple, I can see them as good friends who always support each other. And they may be quite capable of arguing like normal couples but still being able to make up with one another. So, yeah, I support their shipping! PLEASE DON'T HATE ME!!!

I actually disagree with the last two, though pinkie and cheese sandwich would work, here is my reasoning: Since season 2 I've always felt Pinkie and Discord would be an amazing couple as the king and queen of chaos. (and it gives screwball a mother), Though as of Threes a crowd even dischord avoids pinkie (give him time and it will be like pinkie and rainbow in griffin the brush off). Pinkie Cheese and Pinkie could work although their episode didnt feel like a romantic click, more like someone meeting their hero and trying to impress them only to seemingly out do and upset them. Applejack and Caramel is an obvious one, they are family, also there are two versions of Caramel, male and female, maybe they're twins? again though part of the apple FAMILY. I'm not sure we have really seen a good match for Applejack in show, I can see two possibilities working for AJ, The first is a pony from a farming background like her, who understands her putting family, friends and farm first attitude. or a city pony, most likely from Manehatten since she also has experience there. honourable mention, I shipped Dash and Big Mac as of SSCS6k but i agree with Dash/Soarin' She saved his life, she saved his pie and she could fly circles around him, he wont escape :P not sure about flutters and BM but having them sing together in filly vanilli was a good start and i'm sure after applebuck season Big Mac would need someone who could take care of him when hes injured. there has also been suggestions of showing one of the mane 6 in a same sex couple with a second tier pony, after all they have already addressed disability in the show and there are so many other real world issues they can cover too. but thats just my two bits.

Going by the assumption that if the main six hooking up were to appear in the show, it would be hetro due to censors and rules and shit, here`s my ideas; Twilight Sparkle: For Twilight I think someone with a mellowish happiness to them would be a good fit for her. Someone who can help her calm down, and make her happy without annoying her too much, while not being overly energetic. Pinkie Pie: I think Pinkie would do well with someone like Big Mac honestly, or someone like Big Mac. Someone with a personality like Big Mac`s would meld very well with Pinkie`s personality, someone who`s not like she is, but not her exact opposite. A calm pony with a lot of patience, but not overly serious, would be able to keep up with Pinkie, while also still being capable of reeling her back in when she`s gone to far, and just comforting her when she`s sad. Applejack: Someone hardworking and open to ideas. That`s really it, Applejack needs someone that can help her on the farm, but also help her open up to new ideas and possibilities and get her to open up more herself. Rainbow Dash: I think the best match for RD would be someone who`s pretty much just as good at flying and tricks as she is. Now I think Rainbow can go with all sorts of personalities, but I think she melds best with a bit of aggressiveness and pride to them. Someone who can tag Rainbow down a peg, but won`t make her feel weak or not good enough, since she has just as much of a chance of her beating him as he does beating her. Rarity: Rarity needs someone who will treat her well, but not let her step all over him. A fancy, classy stallion who`s a big romantic, but isn`t spineless or dickish. And finally, Fluttershy: Fluttershy needs someone who has three specific traits, calm, kind, and confident. We know that Flutters is shown to be overwhelmed by others that are hyper, and that she has a habit of either reacting passively or aggressively to mistreatment or anger. She she needs someone who`s kind enough to not get angry with her to the point of long arguments and fights, someone who`s calm as to not overwhelm her, and not make her feel rushed or forcing into things, and she needs someone who is confident enough to try new things, therefor getting Flutters to go with them, and allowing HER to try new things. Whew, That was a long one. Anyways, what do you guys think?

I want to respond to an earlier commenter who said having a lesbian relationship in MLP would be pointless. This couldn't be further from the truth. It's a show about TOLERANCE and FRIENDSHIP, what better way to display that message by having one of the mane six fall in love with another mare and the rest of the mane six coming to terms with that and accepting them and still being their friends? That'd be a perfect fit for My Little Pony. They don't need to have anything adult, they've portrayed straight relationships in an innocent child friendly way, they could do the same here. I think they could easily pull it off. I mean My Little Pony is basically the role model for progressive cartoons, if they can pull this off, other shows will follow suit. It could really have a positive impact on the world.

most people are against canon relationships in the series because of the shipping in the fandom all together...i would say this would be a good idea, but i would really want it to be either cheese sandwich and pinkie or 2 of the mane 6 dating (don't get me wrong we all have ships), the thing is if hasbro would be willing to put in homosexuality...? i think it would be good tot each children that its okay to like someone of the same gender, and that might even help them understand at a younger age that its not so "weird" anymore to be gay/lesbian/bisexual/etc. i would love to see how that would play out in the series.

Keep in mind this is still a kids show on a kid-oriented network. Despite having more effort put into it than half of the other kid shows out there, it's still a kid show, on a kid network. So I doubt the censors would allow something like that, and people would get mad and start boycotting MLP because of the gay relationship. I don't think Hasbro would be willing to risk their show getting cancelled to make you (and a few shippers) happy.

I can probably see one of the Mane Six being gay. MLP is a very different show. While most children's shows are very simple and hammer in the exact same message, MLP has Flight to The Finish, an episode about accepting having disabilities and not letting that impact your life more than it has to. If an episode can be deep like this, then there can probably be an episode about how you should accept who you are (sexually) and don't let people get you down about what sex you like. If you are going to ask me which of the Mane Six I think is gay, then I would say either Fluttershy or Rainbow Dash. Fluttershy, because the way that she is completely mentally scarred for life cannot be simply because she can barely fly. I think that it is also because she was bullied for a different reason. That reason being her being gay and liking other mares, and the reason for rainbow being that hair, that voice, and just all-around very lesbiany. (And yes, that is a real word now.)

I think that when Spike finally moves on, AJ would be a cute choice as a love interest. I'm not saying this jut because I've been watching Bride Of Discord, but also because of little hints I've seen in the show, as well as seeing tons of them together. A hint I can think of off the top of my head is in Princess Twilight Sparkle. In Princess Twilight Sparkle, Apple Jack is the first to run to Spike to help him when he's hurt. Although this is just what a good friend would do, just seeing the look on her face as she cradled him(kinda) is so ADORABLE!!! I could honestly say that if this ever happened, it could grow into something amazing!

One struggle I have with the MLP universe is that we have so few examples of married couples in general. The Cakes are our only set that we have observed interact. How many single parents or orphans live in Ponyville? I really liked the episode where Pinkie Pie helped the two donkeys find eachother. Maybe there could be a story about how you shouldn't be afraid of losing your friend when she starts dating. Maybe there could be a story about how you shouldn't make an individual the center of your life (your principles and values should be at the center of your life).

Twilight and er... what's-his-face... Flash is kind of like Spyro and Ember from Spyro: A Hero's Tail in the way that one of them has only made one or two VERY short official appearances in front of the other, then just kind of... fades into the background or just seems to drop off of the face of the world entirely. However, they're like a couple from later games of the same main character - Spyro and Cynder - in that they do seem like they could be a good and endearing couple to me, and with some progression fleshing out of the character of Flash past what you (YOU - not me: YOU!) saw in Equestria Girls and the other I really don't care to remember the name of, we just might see that happen.

I think it would be nice if the relationship between Shining Armor and Cadence was explored in more depth. Sure, we know that they love each other passionately, but I think it would be great to build on the ups and downs of marriage. Maybe Cadence could even get pregnant or something. Flash and Twilight would be the most likely pairing the writer's would go for, but I can also see them having some fun with pinkie and cheese sandwich. I would love it beyond words if they did more Fluttercord episodes, but that's just my personal opinion on my OTP, along with possibly rarity and fancy pants, rainbow and sorin, or maby even some background characters like lyra or derpy or vinyl, I would look forward to any cannon pairing honestly, just to see even more diversity in an already amazing and unique show.
