@@chion918 The facts of what happened are less important than how this individual chooses to interact with his instructors. He's trying to assert dominance over his superiors. The army cannot allow that, regardless who's right or wrong about a silly cell phone. We call this "attitude" in the army and it must be snuffed out where it manifests. Nobody cares about a cellphone, they care about whether a soldier can be subordinated to his superiors. Those who can't will be a major problem for the team and must be shown the door.

For all those commenting on the state of his drill/him moving while at attention, I highly question your knowledge of the progress of basic training. He is not wearing his cap badge and you do not get your cap badge ('cornflake') until after you successfully pass your drill test. Up until that point you are still learning and 90% of what you know is from watching movies up until you went to basic and someone taught you how to properly march, stand at attention, etc. Similarly, your course staff are lenient with you on your drill pre-cap-badge until they get you on the drill deck where they can properly light you up. Also, there are levels of how hard the course staff are on you, depending on where you are in your basic journey (i.e. There's how they behave before you get your uniform, how they behave before you get issued your rifle, and how they behave after you pass your drill test). This kid looks like he's been in for two weeks, maybe.

It’s like that with some platoons, I graduated in march and my first platoon was b26 and we had a Sartech warrant and all of our guys were infantry expect 2 so they were constantly yelling until we got our cap badges, then I got recoursed into a platoon known as the princess platoon and holy shit they were soft, like everyone was talking in ranks like? This guy wasn't giving attitude persay, he just doesn't know how to report and reply in a military manner. He's still behaves like a civilian. We want no emotion, no gestures, no movement, look straight forward unless told to look at the speaker. You answer "Yes, sgt" or "No, sgt" and "I won't happen again, sgt" They are there to correct his behavior. They are giving him a hard time to induce stress and see how he operates. They are looking for any mistakes under a stressful combat environment. The sgts are there to help you ease into the military and become a soldier. They all have good intentions.

Yah, just try it. IF you make it past basic training with that, wait till you get to your regiment and they sort that shit out for you. Remember! A lot of ppl join the army and they come from living with mommy and daddy. When you join the army, they wanna sort out the bugs, because when they train you. It actually cost money. Who wants to train you IF you are a liability? You need to work under stress. They enemy isn't gonna stop firing at you, just because you're stressed and don't like it. Basic training IS where YOU find out if it is for you

As a civilian, this is painful to watch. I understand it's the military, but I cannot imagine my boss or superior speaking to me like that. If I was stern in my truth, and they accused me of having an attitude... that would only push me away, not bring me closer. He didn't have an attitude and his story never changed, but they just kept pushing him. Either believe him or don't, but don't taunt him by trying to insult him by saying he has an attitude. It's only making the situation worse and also forcing him to have a negative opinion of superior officers. He isn't even going to bother telling the truth from then on out because he knows it won't matter, which is a bigger issue in itself.

@@m.d.sharpe8892 It's all about respect. You don't have to be a 'tough guy' to be on a battlefield. You don't have to be disrespected like that to qualify you to save your fellow countryman's life. It's just a tough guy prerequisite to make tough guys feel more tough.

@@Mr.BobbyBrown well you need to read my first comment again because that's completely wrong. Its about being able to leave your ego at the door when you know what your purpose/place is in the platoon and as a broader public servant. BTW I'm about to graduate BMQ myself so I know what I'm talking about and I know what the mindset of my instructors are. My whole platoon loves and respects all of them. Respect is not an issue at all
