The FORCE Evaluation consists of four separate evaluation components designed to elicit and measure different physical capabilities. There is one minimum standard for all CAF members. The evaluation components are:
20 m Rushes: Starting from the prone position, complete two shuttle sprints (1 shuttle = 20 m there, 20 m back) dropping to the prone position every 10 m for a total of 80 m. To be completed in less than 51 seconds.
Sandbag Lift: 30 consecutive lifts of a 20 kg sandbag from the floor to a height of 1 m. The member alternates between left and right sandbags separated by 1.25 m. To be completed in 3 minutes and 30 seconds or less;
Intermittent Loaded Shuttles: 10 consecutive shuttles (1 shuttle = 20 m there, 20 m back), alternating between loaded shuttles with a 20 kg sandbag and unloaded shuttles, totaling 400 m. To be completed in 5 minutes and 21 seconds or less;
Sandbag Drag: Carry one 20 kg sandbag and pull a minimum of four on the floor over 20 m without stopping. Number of sandbags being dragged depends on the type of floor.
Good Luck and You can do it!

2023 Update. Ok. So I did both this Force Test and the Combat Force Test and I have feedback to provide if you want. Even if it helps one person, my job is done. 1) Prep I don't care if you're a special forces tier 1 unit operator or a national athlete. This test/workout is literally designed to get you panting and sweating. It's not that the motions and exercises themselves are hard. It's that these excersies are back to back and UNDER TIME. Which increases the pressure. BUT RELAX, I got some tricks and tips for you. Listen in. Prepare before the test obviously, but I don't mean lift weights or workout heavy. This is an endurance test. So get your stamina up. Replicate these exercises and try and chop down the times. So that on the day of the test, it's not your first time doing it. Trust me. I've done that. It will kick your ass. Even if you're a damn PT stud. 2) Nutrition Don't be an idiot. Don't eat alot before the test. Some do and they end up yaking it all out. Drink water. BRING ELECTROLYTES Eat a Banana or two an hour or two before the test. Trust me. Many have cramps on this test and that is not fun. You don't wanna be that guy. I've been there, others have been there. And its just not a good time. Learn from our dumbass mistakes. 3) Timing Ok. So, if it's your first time, you can ask the moderator or instructor to give you a half count. Meaning, when the clock hits halfway for an exercise (this excludes the drag). Your instructor can shout that out and it gives you a good basis. This is important, it can help calm you or speed you up. You might get this request rejected. Ask another candidate to do it. It's not against the rules. 4) Sequence Ok, so if you get the opportunity, strategize your sequence of the 4 exercises. Meaning: Do the Shuttle Rushes first. Then the Sand Bag lifts Then the Drag And finally the Loaded Shuttles My guys found this to be the easiest sequence. You want your power at the start and then close off with the 5:20 min exercise at the end. 5) The Shuttle Rushes If you're someone who gets dizzy easily or has poor coordination on your feet. Don't do this one first. Fit it in the middle 2nd or 3rd There's alot of spinning and up and down and I've seen people land on their face. 6) Sand Bag lifts Dude. SLOW DOWN. Everyone rushes the heck out of these. Unless you're trying to hit a PR. Slow down. You have tons of time. 3:00 mins is alot of time. That's about 5 seconds each. We tested this by doing 5 seconds between each lift and still passed. Slow down. You still have other relays to complete. 7) Sandbag Drag Don't look back. The area is cordened off and clear. It's human nature to look back when walking backward. Avoid this. You're just twisting your body into a judo throw with the damn sandbag. Just pull... Consistent rate. 8) Loaded Shuttles This feels like forever. But once you actually get started it's easy. You can literally jog on this one and you'll still make time. But put out, this one is the only exercise that takes into account your waist ratio measurement (They do this at the start of the test) . There's a reason for that. Doing this one last is a bit of a suck. You're tired, going in circles. Never ending. But just start and before you know it, you're set. They will prompt you to sprint on each relay (unloaded). You can, but tbh it's not necessary. And that's it. The combat fitness test is harder. It involves you in all your battle rattle and a ruck. But you can build up to it. Just add one piece of equipment on at a time and do this force exercises regularly. 9) Recover and Personal After Action Report Take a picture of the damn paper once you've done the test. You DO NOT want to do this again due to lost paperwork. Ask me how I know. Record your timing in a journal. Heck, use it for personal workouts. Find the weakest number and attack it head on. Yeah you're good at shuttles big woop. Can you do 40-50 sandbag lifts now in the same 3 minutes? Exactly. And that's it. Hope this helps. Go Without Fear.

How long after the aptitude test does this test fall ? I know the whole process I’ve heard is 3-6 months , I have my aptitude test in December of 2023. I’m just trying to get a good head in the game of what I’m walking into , I’ve done hard manual labour my whole life so of this literally falls into what I would do at work lol . So I’m hoping some of that helps on a way . But I’m curious on how long in between the aptitude to the physical, I know the medical is between those . I’m just trying to gather a time frame

Did the force test this morning after 4 years of recovery of an injury. I struggled a lot, but passed. if you get to that mental state where you just tell yourself you will make it through then you will. You have to pace yourself and keep going. My body failed me a couple of times, I have scratches on my knee, I threw up in my mask (had to wear it inbetween the stations) but I never stopped. At the end, I made pretty good timings. If I was able to do it only 3 months after a surgery, you can do it. Work on your legs, your core, your cardio and you’ll succeed.

Anyone worried about taking the test. "The Canadian Armed Forces must follow the Canadian Charter of Human Rights; within this charter are specific instructions to establish a Bona Fide Occupational Requirement (BFOR). The FORCE Evaluation has been established within the BFOR framework. The FORCE Evaluation cannot be artificially inflated by increasing the demands of the evaluation over and above the operational requirement established." You're gonna pass, if you have heart.

Passed this two hours ago, applying for signals officer. It's not so bad; it will take alot more if one doesn't do any practice, but I do 50 pushups in the morning and a jog for about a mile every day and I got through. 1:26 on the bag lift so I'm decently happy with myself there, bag drag is more of an initial shock but once you get it moving it's pretty relaxed. the sprint will be the most challenging, our floor was bloody slippery so a little more to stop than anything. One guy was DQ'd on that.. and the intermittent is.. not hard at all provided you can carry a toddler. Good luck everyone!

I'd reccomend getting a job at McDonalds. Seriously. Especially if you live in a big city - pick the busiest McDonalds. I say this because McDonalds has a good training program so you should feel properly equipped for the job. On top of that they teach their managers to micromanage. You will be watched constantly at work between customers and managers and usually the managers are constantly telling you what to do and how to do it. It's a silly idea if you are an adult with a regular job - but I find starting a new unfamiliar job has always helped me learn to work in new environments. Especially if you can find a business that micromanages and has multiple supervisors on the floor. If you are young i think this advice Is even easier to take. try to stick with big companys that have lots of customer interaction so you can push yourself out of your comfort zone. If it's too stressfull do it part time untill you become more comfortable with your co workers. This is exactly how i developed confidence and lost that nervous shyness that I had as a teen.

I was shy when I joined about 44 years ago, took me about two weeks to get over it, you'll do fine, just remember to give everything a good honest effort, that is the key, effort, slackers don't make it much past recruit training. If you want it, you shall get it, good luck. Another thing, always make yourself available to take on responsibility, even if it is being the leader of of a bunch of folks pushing brooms, just don't be bossy.

universality of the Canadian forces creates a very minimal amount of physical fitness required in the forces ,but they had the mentality no matter what trade you had to consider that your an infantry man first and each trade requires physical fitness beyond there testing they don't tell you that like example being on a tank you have to have the upper body strength to handle the ammunition infantry men have to have the running endurance so you need to realise that just being at the bare minimum isn't enough

Well I passed and it's best to prepare. It includes a 40m dash and every 20m you stop and put you're foot on a line and get on your stomach and raise you're hand and so on and so forth. Second test. Is sand bag lifts. 40 pounds a sandbag. You have to pick it up and put it on the wall and let it drop. Do that 30 times. Third test. You put a sandbag on you're shoulder and walk 40m and then back the 40m and then run it wihout the sandbag. You do that 5 times. Then you have a bunch of sandbags tied together weighing about 240 pounds including the sandbag in you're arms. You drag it backwards 40m without stopping.once you complete that. Congrats you passed. They time you all on this. Don't worry they give you 10 minute breaks between each exercise. Good luck brother. Let me know how it goes

Keep doing PT regularly. Focus on exercises that will aid in the FORCE test ie. interval training, dead lifts, squats and general upper body. BMQ is difficult for a whole host of reasons, but it's not meant to be impossible. The best advice I can give is put in the effort, be a team player and don't take anything personally.

Is there a point of doing these tests as fast as possible, or just beat them within the allotted time and you pass? For example, complete 30 sand bag carry within 3 mins. Do you get bonus points for completing it in 1:00 min vs 2:59 min?

I'm 5'3, and my best time was 55 seconds. The sergeant I had was being especially nit picky to me as I was the only female, and faulted me at EVERY OTHER line for not touching it, or not raising my hands. Not one other man in the room got faulted. And I wasn't allowed to do the rest of the test. It was kind of a joke.

Start running 4 times a week at least. Small runs even. Get moving. Pushups. Plank. Even slow burpees are fantastic. When demotivated: Build the mental toughness to initiate even a small run. Consider the rigorous duty and presentation of a soldier. Don't slack physically ! I have my physicals in 2 weeks. I just taped a FORCE test in my barn. I am trying to get Gold and hoping for platinum for the Force results. It scores out of /400.
