This is such an important and amazing performance. Two influential powerhouse actresses in a phenomenal duet. This is why I subscribe to Broadway HD, because we need to capture these moments and allow people to see these incomparable performances.

Memorable Mammaries Like Alpine Peaks............has me in fits every time I hear it. Bernstein was a genius

Besides the obvious greatness of these 2 bwy artists, do you hear how Chenoweth sings the end of the word "expand" on that high note each time? EXTREMELY difficult to do that without closing off the note, but, of course, she can do it.

I'm fortunate enough to have this hilariously comic Operetta on DVD.

The plight of women in candide is tragic, yet they handle it with such fortitude and resiliency

There are so many different version of Candide, and this FANTASTIC duet is from his longest version, which was cut up all over the place. Why anyone would cut THIS is beyond me!

CUNEGONDE, OLDLADY We are women! We are women! We are women, little women, Little, little women are we! OLD LADY Not a man ever born ever could resist A well-turned calf, a slender wrist, A silhouette as airy as the morning mist, And a dainty dimpled knee. CUNEGONDE Every male I may meet must acclaim for weeks My twinkling thighs, my flaxen cheeks, My memorable mammaries like Alpine Peaks, High above a wine-dark sea. OLDLADY, CUNEGONDE We've necks like swans, and oh, such sexy legs, We're so light-footed we could dance on eggs. (They do.) A pair of nymphs from fairyland And every day in every way our charms expand! You may add, if you wish, to that growing list A mouth so fair it must be kissed And parts we cannot mention but we know existIn a rich abundancy. Not a man ever born ever could resist A pretty little thing like me! OLD LADY Not a man ever born ever could resist A well-turned calf, a slender wrist, etc. CUNEGONDE Every male I may meet must acclaim for weeks My twinkling thighs, my flaxen cheeks, etc. OLD LADY We've Giotto hands, da Vinci smiles, We are brava divina to balletophiles. CUNEGONDE We've Giotto hands, and Mona Lisa smiles, We are brava divina to balletophiles. (They dance.) OLDLADY, CUNEGONDE A pair of nymphs from fairyland, etc. We are women! We are women! We are little, little women, Little, little, little women are we!

That moment when you think Patti LuPone, a Broadway belter, can't hit a G above High C in a mezzo mix, and then 3:19 happens ;-)

That wasn't a g6 (a high c is c6)
@WarperBlade6 жыл бұрын
A high C is a C5. A C6 is a soprano high C.
@christycrane59026 жыл бұрын
@@WarperBlade c5 is called treble C and c6 high c (and c4 middle c) Sometimes c5 is referred to high c when your talking about a male singer (tenor high c, bc it's the highest required note is the standard tenor repertoire)

Yeah I didn't know LuPone ever used her head voice in performance! It's a nice change from her belt!

Too bad it won't be Chenoweth & LuPone performing it when SF Symphony does Candide next year during their 2017-2018 season, which will be celebrating Bernstein.
