I was obsessed with Elton from the age of 6, and this was the first time I saw him with my mum and late dad.. December 86 in Sydney... I was 10 years of age and my mum always told the story that i just stood there with my mouth wide open the whole show in amazement - some 40 concerts later and nothing has changed.

I’ve always loved this song and Marilyn. I had a very bad addiction to pain pills prescribed by my doctor after a severe accident…an addiction that brought me so close to dying. To be honest, there’s no explanation why I didn’t die on several occasions during the six years I was addicted. My mom had told me she had already planned to play this at my funeral, because she was certain I wouldn’t survive. I’ve been sober for 12 years now. I’m so thankful I was given a chance at life again, unlike so many others that lose the battle.

I don't think there's a better performance than this 1986 live version in Australia. Simply amazing and extremely emotional. And if the sound of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra with "loneliness was hard ..." swells - just beautiful! This performance still touches me today since I heard it many years ago on a Transatlantic Night Flight.

I said this about a live performance of “These Dreams” by Heart and I’ll say it again here this is by far better than the studio version. Actually the writing credit is to both of them. I think there was more than a little autobiographical emotion in this song.. Elton had lead a similar life having to change his name, his appearance, and hide his sexuality to achieve fame. So many love Elton John without giving a second thought to Reginald Dwight.

I sure do miss the 70s, 80s and 90s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?

What adds more significance to this song is that at this time Elton found out he had potentially cancerous growths in his vocal cords which turned out to be benign,he knew at the time this could be the last time he sang this song. I’d get emotional too

I feel his live performance Inside the Abbey for the Funeral of the Princess of Wales was the best live version. Even better than the single he released. It was the biggest selling single on 1997 as well as all time, yet he says he didn't keep a single penny from the sales

Elton I feel like Diana needs to still be forever remembered, even every day, I was thinking we could have a day each year to celebrate Diana, make it a day the world celebrates her life or perhaps a special coin or even a note with her picture on it. That way we'll always remember her and she'll always be around. I think it's a great idea. I've never met Diana but i really really wish i did but there's so very very few woman in the world as amazing, loveable and wonderful as her! Shes the perfect woman. All the best Elton - WithoutUHere x
