I am Dagmar Snodgrass.I live in Springfield,Missouri. and am 84 years old .I found a parachute laying on the street of Berlin in 1948 to 1949. I knew that it came through the clouds sent by Uncle Wiggly Wings.I had the pleasure to meet him and his wife Lorraine in 2015.at the Goddard school in Goddard Kansas.What a blessing and joy it was for me to meet my Hero.He is now my friend. I admire and love this man and also his family. The family also gave much so he could be the Berlin Chocolate Pilot. I am called Dagie for short instead of Dagmar. And this is just a short way of telling my story .The allied flyers did much for my home town of Berlin.Close to 70 died flying this mission for West Berlin and for me.God bless them.I do not want to forget this mission of love they flew, for a one time enemy that became their friend. Col Halvorsen was our Base Commander at Templehof. I was there 1968-1972 . Great Man!

Thank you for voicing those feelings! So many people hate and criticize America for it's many faults these days, without trying to find anything positive about my country. It's easy for us Americans in our 20's to feel that the world feel nothing but hate and scorn for America, because the people who hate us are far more vocal. It's nice to be reminded that some people are glad we exist.

12 May 2009, 60 years end of the Berlin airlift: Gail Halverson and his comrades saved more than two million West Berliners, my family inlcuded. I just saw great Gail - at 89 still going strong - on German TV. The hero was celebrated today at Tempelhof Airport in Berlin. - I was 8 yrs old in 49/49 and survived due to the Americans, British and French. THANK YOU GUYS!!! (BTW, never caught a candy myself ...)

Gail Halvorsen, a true hero. I urge anyone even slightly interested in his story and that of the Berlin Airlift to read the book asap. A great read about a pivotal point in world history.
