Once dry, this pot really does look like there are candy cane stripes on it. I've included at the end, a few pictures of some of the jewellery that I use the skins for and have used only the skin for this pot.
There are tips on filling in missed patches and layering for feature colours.

Barry Radburn Thank you :) I was just varnishing two pots that will be sent to Como, Perth in a couple of weeks. Not quite Geraldton but it's closer!

Believe it or not, I lived in Como when I was a kid. I went to Collier School in Monash Ave. My wife also lived in Como. What a small world.

I'm How always so delighted to watch you make these. How does one keep the paint from paling or cracking on the bottom when it gets wet after planting a plant in the pot?Every one of the pieces you painted came out beautiful!♡

Preciosa Flower thank you so very much :) I confess that I'm working on a double theory on preventing the paint from cracking. Or at least delaying it as long as possible. The pot is sealed with a terracotta sealer and also has varnish on it. On top of that, I stick rubber nubs onto the base to lift it up out of any standing water. I am a notorious black thumb so I haven't planted in one to test it as the plant would be doomed! As they are correctly sealed they should last a number of years before any serious damage occurs.

Where did you buy your pendant blanks? Beautiful work!

Jenny Greco Hi Jenny, thank you :) I pretty much trawl the internet for blanks and see what I can find that I like. I do get some things from various local craft and beading shops, eBay, all over. I'm afraid I don't have any regular supplier! I type in pendant blanks and hit search. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Hi, love your work, how did you seal it? And did you seal the inside as well?

Shelley Bachman Hi Shelley, on the outside I use a spray varnish over the paint - the same that I use for my canvases, which is water resistant. Having pva in the paint also adds to the water resistant properties of the paint helping to protect the external surface of the pot. The internal of the pot is sealed with Bondall Pot and Ornament Sealer which I pick up from my local hardware shop. You should be able to pick up the same or equivalent sealer from a plant nursery as well. I use the recommended two coats though if I feel it hasn't gone on thick enough I'll add an extra coat. Hope this helps you. Cheers, Kalena

Silicone? Can you explain? Also what kind of varnish? Do they hold up well when holding a plant and being watered? Would love to see some of your jewelry peices too! Beautiful colors!

Silicone is not a necessity but it does create nicer and usually bigger (in my experience) cells. Also, there seems to be a difference between liquid and spray silicone. I haven't used the liquid, this simply comes from watching other youtube clips where the artists are using liquid. Being an oil based lubricant, the silicone won't mix completely with the water based paint so, from my understanding, the cells form partly as a result of the silicone rising to the surface through the paint, however, cells can be formed without silicone and without floetrol. Simply using water and pva will also give you cells, it's just a case of which final result you like best. I've found that using both floetrol and silicone gives me a crisper line through the piece with colours merging together less and it also gives me larger cells when I want them. Experiment, play, discover what you like best and run with it! It's all about enjoying the process and loving the outcome! Varnish - I use dulux indoor/outdoor gloss spray. As it's name suggests, this makes the pot work in the outdoors just as well as the indoor. The interior terracotta sealant allows for plants to be potted in them with no difficulties around the destruction of the pot. As long as you use the sealant according to directions you can be confident that it will pot well. I don't use the varnish inside the pot, only the sealant. Kalena

When you paint a pot, do you also seal the inside? I’ve just painted my first and I’m wondering if I should seal the inside or not.

I definitely seal the inside. When the moisture soaks through it will lift the paint. I use a terracotta pot and ornament sealer and do two coats. It works fantastically and I've got a number of pots in various sizes that have been out in the weather for several years now and each is still in perfect condition.

LINDA YARBROUGH being sealed internally and external they should be fine outside, I haven't put any outside yet myself but have had no complaints so it seems they are fine!
