In Chungju, South Korea, Bong-Seok Kang and his family carry on a generations-long tradition of a sweeter sort than most: they make yeot, a taffy-like candy that dates back more than 1,000 years. Alice B In Korea, they don't care about Hygiene as much as the western countries do. For example, Korean restaurants have customers share and reuse utensils without actually washing them. You can see people who sell yeot in markets opening and closing scissors making the clinking sound to get attention and they do use those scissors to cut the candy and sell it. So, for those of you who haven't tried hobak yeot,호박엿,Pumpkin seasoned yeot,I have tried it as a Korean.It doesn't sell traditionally nowadays.But I found one seller about 70 years old selling it.I've tried his yeot,Hobak yeot.It was very sweet at first.Then,it becomes softer like taffy.Then it becomes a softened taffy(like when taffy kind of melts in your mouth) then it disappears.It's very good,you can bite or melt it in your mouth and eat.It's very sweet like candy, many kids will like it.

I'm Korean and ive never had Yeot So after i watched this i went to my grandpas house (not in Korea in Sunnyvale) I asked in korean for Yeot He opened his closet griped a tin paint bucket opened it and there was yeot from Korea that he saved when he moved here (60 years ago) It was very hard but we dipped it in honey and it tasted delicious.

Who is translating this? Half of the dialogue is omitted or misinterpreted. At 1:55, the narrator never states that "you can still make yeot without pulling", he simply states that eating it without pulling would be hard. People who sold yeot back in the day was called "yeot jang su" and the name of the traditional dance is called "ga wee chum", which literally means 'scissor dance'. Great video btw!

I think this candy is the same as the candy in Cyprus I think. They're both sticky and caramelly and they pull it too. It starts out with that darkish brown color then when they start the pulling process it becomes golden. so yea just wanted to share lol
