Definitely a way to do it. I think putting down your silver, letting it dry and spaying the black over top and then laying the plastic is a better way. You are correct that you can control more of the pattern. But nature doesn't have patterns.

candy2o are dyes intended for exterior coatings, same as what is used in quality solvent-based candy colors. The resin is a durable acrylic-polyurethane, intended for exterior automotive & architectural-grade coatings. Since their introduction in the late 1990s, Createx paints have proven to be a long-lasting, durable paint for use in an automotive base-coat / 2k solvent-based clear coat. We're also proud to say Createx paints won best of paint and 2nd overall (an Elite 8 car) at the 2020 Detroit Autorama's Riddler Competition. Thank you.

Ive always used spray paints or airbrush paints and 2k clear. But I watched a few different videos about the candy2o. Much nicer then what I've used I ordered the blue and green candy2o, along with 4030 clear and 4013 reducer. Was that the right stuff for this kind of affect.? Secondly do I have to clear it with anything before a 2k clear?
@CreatexColors4 жыл бұрын
If top-coating candy2o with a 2k solvent-based clear, another clear type doesn't have to first be applied over candy2o. In regard to mixing candy2o, both 4030 and 4050 can be used; 4050 being a newer carrier option that we prefer over the 4030. for more please see our Mixing candy2o video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJ7NkKOnbdigZtE, and refer to the candy2o tech data sheet available at www.creatextech.com. @CreatexColors Жыл бұрын
We've not tried to reverse paint a marble effect, so not sure if this works, but you can test by first applying candy2o, then, backing that with a clear (2k best option) so as to prevent the silver and candy2o from bleeding into one another. After the silver marble effect, back with 6002 AutoBorne Sealer Black. Compare this versus painting the outside of the RC body and applying a clear over the candy2o. Thank you.

I am thinking about using this technique for the base on my motorcycle tank, and then pinstriping over it... is the texture caused by the marbling a problem.. when you lay the plastic on the substrate, you can see in your video that it leaves a texture as well as a pattern.. is that going to cause problems with the clear?
@CreatexColors2 жыл бұрын
This technique will require 2 clear sessions to bury the marble effect. Apply 3 - 4 coats of clear, scuff flat using @ 600 - 800 grit, then apply 2 or 3 more coats of clear. Make sure to keep re-coat times open so there is enough flashing of the solvent. Thank you.

@CreatexColors4 жыл бұрын
Good question. 1) This is a demo panel, and if for a real client any touching of would be with gloves on and 2) most of the touching was over masked-off edges; the tape was a few inches deep for the underlying , silver tribal-graphic. This paint was removed with the tape and the underlying silver top-coated with a 2k clear. Cleaning Createx paint prior to clear is surprisingly not as critical as with solvent-based paints, however its best not to contaminate the paint, so you're correct that gloves should be worn or paint not touched prior to applying the clear. Thank you.

So from what I've read through comments, you painted on the silver sealer, black sealer, then dabbed on the silver to produce the marbeled effect? Two questions. 1: Whats the purpose of adding the silver before the black when you add silver "texture" afterwards? 2: Is the black base coat completely cured before adding the silver texture with the saran wrap, still wet, or just barely dry to touch? I was playing around with some cardboard last night before I paint this guitar to work out the kinks and even though the paint felt dry, after laying down the light coat, it would stick and pull off parts of the lower layers
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
1) the silver technique is a graphic effect, 2) not cured, but dry enough to tape on, shave when sanded, etc. Great job making a test panel! on your next one, please allow more dry time in between coats and before steps. I've been wanting to try Auto Air Candies,but have wondered if they'll adhere to lexan? I've got a Harbor Freight HVLP sprayer and a Detail sprayer that I use for liquid mask,but for my airbrushing I use my Iwata TRN2, Eclipse, Revolution,and Neo BCN. Does Auto Air have to be sprayed with an HVLP sprayer or will one of my airbrushes work? My TRN2 ,Revolution,and Neo BCN have .5 needles/nozzles and I have .3 in my Eclipse. Any tips or advice you could give me before I try and venture into Auto Air for Lexan?

USing 4050 with candies, even if you're spraying lexan / rc bodies?
@CreatexColors4 жыл бұрын
Yes, we prefer 4050 as the candy2o carrier for any application including polycarbonate, plastics, hard-surface - anything but canvass. However, 4030 still works well and certainly can be used for application to polycarbonate. Thank you.

how did you do the surrounding area..looks like white and secondly is the uvls clear just as good as 2k clear and safer
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
UVLS Clear is a durable clear for interior & exterior paintjobs, but its an architectural ("Sign") clear which does not have the mar resistance (not as durable) as a catalyzed (2k) solvent-based urethane or epoxy clear, to which a 2k urethane clear is the recommended top-coat when using Createx paints for automotive. Thank you.

Can you guys do this on like a silver base, with mica powder or color shift pigments in a clear for the Saran Wrap application, then some candy (blue or green) over the top? I think it would be a killer effect

Sounds like a cool test panel idea. Please share your results with us! Thanks.

@@CreatexColors my new hvlp system came in today so I am definitely going to be doing some test panels to get acquainted. If you look up the Ibanez rg5120m guitar in frozen ocean, that is what I’m hoping to accomplish. Looks to be a marbled finish such as this, but the marbling disappears in certain light just letting the candy and the wood grain show. My guess is they did something as described above. Probably more like sealer, then directly to the plastic wrap, then candy and clear. I’m a noob though so I’m sure I haven’t completely figured it out. 😂 However any input or ideas from you guys would be great! Funny thing is most of the stock photos don’t even show this effect.

Why don't you just spray the marbilizer right on the black panel then lay the plastic wrap down and pull it off then after it drys lay a coat of intercoat clear to protect the silver marble before the candy...
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
A marbelizer was not used in this technique. The aluminum could be applied with plastic-wrap direct to the black base. An inter-coat of 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear applied over the silver before candy2o could be done, although not absolutely necessary, it could be a good step to add. Thank you. createxcolors.com/scenix-mural-theme-paint/uvls-clears/4050.html

@@CreatexColors would the w359 do the job ?
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
Silver Sealer has the same aluminum flakes as Aluminum 4102 Medium and 4103 Coarse, which is more reflective compared to Metallic Silver (W359). To see the difference, and whether you like the marble effect with W359, make a test panel comparing the two. Thank you.

the panel is a powder-coated, aluminum sign blank. if that term is Googled, a few online suppliers appear where to get them. thanks

That turned out really nice! What colour did you use for the drop shadows on the outer sections? Looked almost like Candy2o Black.
@CreatexColors4 жыл бұрын
The drop-shadows along the tribal graphic are a 1:1:1 mixture of Wicked Detail Black, Violet and 4004 Transparent base.createxcolors.com/wicked-airbrush-colors/wicked-detail-colors/w051.html Wicked Black & Violet, Createx Transparent Black & Violet could also be used, as can substituting the 4004 Transp. Base with 5601 Transp Base and or adding 4030 Balancing Clear. Whats important is mixing a transparent black & violet, then extending that with a resin based clear to make a very transparent color, then thin a bit, 10% -20% per volume with 4011 Reducer. Thank you.

We're using a 2k solvent-based urethane automotive clear; more specifically an Albert Kemperle branded clear. Thank you.
