Your safe the rule is to summon him. You have to say Candyman five times in a row. Non-stop like cm for example just to be safe . Like cm cm cm cm cm then he would come. But saying cm then some other things then . Saying cm again doesn't count towards summoning him . Like you have to say Beetlejuice 3 times to summon him.

you'll be safe so long as you never say it in the mirror, and never say it as a means of proving he doesn't exist or as a means for a cheap thrill or for a laugh. When you think about it that's how everyone who's summoned him have done it like that, I think that's why they die.

I could go on and on about how much of a horror masterpiece this is, but I'll just leave it at this: one of the most iconic horror films ever made. Tony Todd as Candyman remains one of the best slasher villains in horror film history, the setting of Cabrini Green in Chicago perfectly captures the urban legend aesthetic and how those environments are a danger to the residents, and the way it scares you without relying on cheap jump scares is how horror should always be. One of the best of all-time.

@@mr.nobody9697 True. It did have a lot of jump scares. "Horror" movies made in the last 15-20 years are, basically, all jump scares. There is nothing wrong with using jump scares to build suspense, you just don't want to rely on them for ALL of the suspense. Candyman doesn't do that. This is a horror film. Most "horror" movies made in the last 15-20 years are actually just suspense/thrillers.

I've always loved how original this movie is, based on a Clive Barker short story, compared to a lot of other horror movies at the time. This was before "urban legends" got really played out in the 90's. Candyman is a manifestation of whatever myth people make him to be. This is why he haunts the people of Cabrini Green, and why the words "it was always you Helen" was written on the wall. Because its Helen that was driving the myth in the movie, and why the picture on the wall looked like Helen, because it was Candyman that put the words and the picture on the wall. All the subtle plot elements in the book were all derived from urban legends strung together by Clive Barker. I believe even the name Candyman was influenced by an urban legend of someone putting razor blades in candy. The scene with the boy being murdered in the bathroom was a story Clive was told as a child. There are real life accounts of connected areas through bathroom mirrors in project buildings, that people snuck through to commit crimes.

I'm so glad that you watch it after recommended it to you! This is probably so far one of my favorite horror movie. The scenario is very well written, deep and rise a lot of social topics that we can still identify to nowadays. This is also one of the rare movie where you can feel empathy for the protagonist : he had such a sad background story (being murdered just because he felt in love with a white woman in times where slavery wasn't even over), and the connection with Helen turn into something darkly romantic. This movie has something very mystic in its soundtrack, acting (when you wondered yourself if Candyman was putting Helen in a trance, she was actually truly being hypnotized on the set to make it beleviable) and story. The film is also terrifying as it touched on our belief system by a urban legends, and many of us are actually quite scared of vengeful ghost such as bloddy Mary. I remember that I have scene this movie in 1994 when it was aired on the cable, and many of us at school really were scared and start to believe that Candyman exists too, scared to say his name in front of the mirror. I also love how they introduce the racism issue in this movie : it is not far-fetched and very credible. Depends of how you see the movie, you can even really wonder at some point if Candyman really exists, or if Helen just doesn't fall in madness by being obsessed for the subject of her study. There is 2 other movies following this one : Candyman 2 "farewell to the flesh" which is ok but not excellent, giving us a bit more of Candyman's history. And as for Candyman 3 "day of the dead", it is just super bad, it wasn't even released at theaters. I really hope they're not gonna mess the sequel in 2021, but I find the idea that the main character will be the baby from the original movie grown up as an adult is quite interesting! It seems that they took the same actor for Anne-Marie. Anyway, thanks guys for watching it, I love the reaction of your movies! Next suggestion : Cube, from 1997.

I haven't watched this in awhile and it was scarier than I remember. Stop saying Candyman!

Yep, Candyman is utterly terrifying. One of the few horror movies I rarely rewatch because it chills me to the bone. Tony Todd is excellent as Candyman. Kasi Lemons, who played Bernadette, would make her directorial debut a few years latter with Eve’s Bayou, a thriller set in rural Louisiana. You should definitely check that one out. Xander Berkeley, who played the husband, would go on to star with Julianne Moore in Safe, which is an altogether different kind of horror film that is worth checking out. You’re outro reminded me of The Blair Witch Project as if you were documenting your last moments in case we should never see y’all again. Funny!

You're doing great! I think you two are doing the videos so natural, that for me it is very pleasing to watch. Because I hate those fake you tubers with their studied fake handgestures and almost get the sense they read everything of a paper. You two also give a good opinion on movies in general btw. Keep up with the good work!

Also this movie SCAREEDDD an entire generation of kids. My older cousin would taunt us and say he would say it in the mirror if we didn’t do whatever he said 😭 to this day I won’t say it

Hey guys . ❤️ Your channel. I'm not sure if anyone here has mentioned this already so apologies in advance but fun fact : Virgina Madson ( Helen) WAS literally hypnotized when she sees Candyman. The director gave alot if thought I'd his he wanted Helen to react and since he couldn't stand screaming -he sent her to hypnotist and was given a word to use so whenever she saw Candyman, she literally was under his spell. It is amazing. !!!!

TBR's the main character we need in a Candyman movie. He's warned not to say the name 5 times but he keeps forgetting throughout the movie and he keeps catching himself, proceeds to say it 8 times - that's tension lol.

The expression on ur faces on 13.33 when candyman takes the doctor then is priceless. I have this movie and have seen it. Very strong and good horror movie with incredible feeling in it then.

I just love how Samantha is just *not having* it at the end of this movie. She's scared and she's PISSED! 😂

This is such a great scary movie. If you haven’t watched the Final Destination movies you’ll see Tony Todd had a recurring role as the morgue attendant. You NEED to watch all the Final Destination movies!!

A true horror classic. Such an iconic horror character, in Candyman. The new film produced by Jordan Peele is said to be a follow up to this film, with the baby now being a grown man. The last segment of your review had me rolling, I dare not count how many time TBR said “that name” lol More horror reviews please! It’s such a rich genre! Perfect for reactions like this great episode was! Stay safe! 🪝

This movie is based on a Clive Barker story, he also wrote and directed Hellraiser, Nightbreed and Lord of Illusions, 3 great horror films you should check out if you haven’t seen them.
