Great advice. The presence of a bat escalates tension in a confrontation but a cane not so much. And it can do the same thing 😎

Great advice. I've been in martial arts studying many forms since I was 9yo. It boggles my mind how people use videos and buy weapons think they can use that information for self defense. Nothing beats in-person training with actual instruction to avoid BAD techniques. Anything and everything fits into three categories. Weapon, Shield and or diversion. If you know and properly train physical/mentally never forgetting Your situational awareness. Anyway, thanks for all efforts.

John thank you for commenting! Respectufully, the idea you need anyone near you to get trained is outdated and irrelevanet in today's world. Thanks to technology, professional guidance, support, and accountability with an unparalleled Cane community , Caners have been getting trained effectivey and efficiently in the comfort of their homes for quite a while. ACSD is and has been hands down the world leader in getting ordinary people trained with amazing Cane skills. In pandemic times alone ACSD has graduated 150+ Cane Leaders worldwide.We have Certified and Licensed Cane Empowerment Coaches doing likewsie helping people get trained all over the map. We've been inviting the unifomred (as we do in this video you're commenting on) to TEXT CCC to 305-745-7839 to learn how this is done and see if it would work for you as it has 100s of others worlwide. IF you choose not to send a simple text and jump on a call, we can't help you. The alternative is to remain a "KZbin Caner" or watch DVDs which amounts to nothing since it is void of professional correction and guidance. It's a waste of time and you will not get what you want. Period. If on the other hand, you really want to get trained properly in the comfort and safety of home, then YOU need to seek guidance, no one will do it for you. Starts with a simple text. You may also call 800-289-8188. We're here for you when you're ready John. Thanks again and Stay Safe!

I have heard the "you need training" many times and it's great advice. However, I work 2nd shift and all martial arts training in the area is based on 1st shift needs. I won't quit my job because it's the best job I've ever had but when a 1st shift position opens up, I'm up for some training. That said , I carry a stick anyway.

I need mine both for support and defense. Martial artist but I have arthritis in all my joints and my spine. The cane was always going to be a permanent accessory one day, so I started looking the 'Cane Masters' system. Really want to pursue formal training. Kicking or taking a fight to the ground are *out*, this is how I adapt. :)

"You can not learn cane defense through video." Mr. Miawgi. I love the idea of cane defense. And I agree with you here. Your opponent can definitely use the cane against you. I am thinking about getting into this. The world is upside down, any type of self defense is beneficial. And cops can't take a mobility device from you, as they could other tools. What I've heard anyhow. Thank you. Take care.

Trading is awesome, if you can get it. I've spoken with several martial arts instructors in my area, none of them want to train specifically for the cane. They only want to train you in their particular style of martial arts. I have artificial knees and my Drs have said absolutely no martial arts, due to the fact that if I damage the only ligament left in my knee.... We need more cane self defense instructors!

I have hit a lot of people with sticks in my life. Easily over 100, and this guy is spot on when it comes to training. Humans are surprisingly resistant to being hit with sticks and you must know what you are doing and practice it or it will likely be ineffective. The very first time I did it, I swung hard, fast, connected like a champ, and promptly stripped the stick out of my own hand because my grip was not sufficiently strong (or my technique was not sufficiently developed) to hold onto a lever applying that kind of force at the other end. As I watched my stick clatter across the pavement in complete surprise, the dude I hit, who seemed totally unaffected by it, promptly jumped on me and it turned into a wrestling match on asphalt (not fun). It took a few applications until I learned how to transfer the force. Get training, and make it as realistic as possible.

Broke my leg in Alaska in mid 70s so had to use a cane to get around, first week in town man tried to rob me with a knife. I found out slamming cane against his knee cap removed the threat plus other moves sent him to ICU. Used it ever sence. Person with canes seems to be a good target.

Were do you recommend getting the best self defense cane for the most reasonable cost?
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your inquiry r.michael wilensky! "Reasonable" is relative and for self protection you're wise to choose your Cane like a sky diver chooses his parachute: RELIABILITY is crucial. When it comes to self protection Canes we recommend "Canes made by Caners for Caners". You'll want to choose Canes you can trust to hold up between you and an incoming assault. American Cane Self Defense (800-289-8188) & Cane Masters (800-422-2263) are global, time tested, Cane companies you can trust.

Ok,i bought a old.. Like 1930s old oak wide hook cane for a hiking stick because after about a mile i start getting some hip ache and was just going down the cane rabbit hole on KZbin and am here now,but im more about defense from maybe a coyote/cougar (not a bar cougar,lol) and other things like snakes,or that loose aggressive breed dogs that just doesn't like the fact your there.. Would you still go with a hook cane or... Pardon my spelling a Irish "shi-ley-ley" with the heavy hand hold to be able to use it like a bat?
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for commenting and your inquiry @Wascaly Wabbit! - Once you learn how to apply the ACSD Powershot Template under duress, it works with any impact tool. That said, we still like the Cane with the "J" Horn/Crook over derbys or knobs. Better accepted at security points, works to defend in the environment you describe but also against human attacks. Consider also if you ever lose your footing the J Horn/Crook can latch to an inmovable object to help you up. Can't do that with other options. If we're going to invest in a tool, might as well serve in a variety of situations including getting a quick release response and collecting DNA from a criminal . Keep Canin' and Stay Safe!

Do you happen to have any recommendations for trainers in the Denver metro? I modified a wooden handle foldable cane by drilling a hole through the wooden handle and sticking a long steel bolt through it to add some weight and a point and I would like to be able to better defend myself with it. i just wanted to add a little advice from my personal experience ,if you are out there right now using a quad cane or 4 point cane, if I were you start making it you're mission to get to using a single point cane after 4 major strokes & 11 years later i can tell ya continuing to use that quad cane will make you weak & help to ruin you're balance ,believe me I understand you can only do what ya can , but i tell ya with sincerity that no Physical therapist ever mentioned to me ,hey see you still using that quad cane lets start working with this single point & i sure wish they had 11 yrs later i wake up to the fact own my own that i ned to be using a single point & now im trying & my whole body is in revolt against it which i dont get i barely put any pressure on the quad cane ,walk fine with it , single point im right back where i started 11 years ago , so its just friendly advice , but if i were you i would at least think about it , maybe pick up a single point now & see how, ya do before you go 10 or 11 years with a quad cane ,just using the single point will inherently make you stronger & more balanced ,longer you go with that quad cane the worse it will get of course discuss it with you're Physical therapist , but on my life its good advice .

Thank you for informing Dwight! Here's the link again for the Minis (by themselves) in case you still need it:americancaneselfdefense.com/product/freestyle-mini-cane/ - Out of curiosity WHY are you ordering Minis, what's the goal? Minis in ACSD serve a very specific purpose most do not need early on. - Sounds like you are on your way to 3 Canes which is a far greater investment than a bundled Cane with the training which is the REAL equalizer. Canes don't save lives, proper training does. - You could also (which we HIGHLY recommend) have a Cane Clarity Call to make sure you're clear and get exactly what you want before ordering. @AmericanCaneSelfDefense
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your inquiry mrfxm2!- Canes minus the J horn/crook are not part of ACSD as the potential of the Cane for our use is greatly reduced, however, any sturdy Cane would fit our Powershot template for example. You could strike with the knob, although we prefer Horn/Crook for a quick release response when grabbed. - We're not big on Cane Tip strikes-there are times when they're applicable, we prefer shaft strikes to limbs to incapcitate for example. If you have to use .your cane to defend yourself, and you hurt someone, if they know you trained to defend yourself using your cane, it is going to be harder to defend yourself in court, rather than if you just used the cane with no training simply trying to defend yourself.
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense

Thank you for commenting Steve! With the line of reasoning you offer the same may be said of ANY tool in question including firearms. The real problem with thinking you will be able to defend yourself (Cane or other) by "trying" without training which is the real equalizer is dangeorus to the point you may not even make it to court. Who wants to have their Cane, gun, knife, taken away from them and used against them by a criminal? That's how people are victimized and we don't want that for anyone. Training saves lives.
