Well Joe it's cane spinning 1 and fleeing suspect 0 my mobile home park had a theft suspect going home to home and my neighbors alerted me and then calling police as so many times in my career I confronted the subject and kept his attention on the spinning of my cane and kept him at a distance right up until police officer pulled up on him to arrest him. Foot work side to side and spinning the cane worked for this very situation. And if needed I would have taken out his wheels (his mobility) had I needed to do so!

I also love the legs as a primary target. Your commentary on head shots is spot one. Love the videos, you are the Jeff Goldblum of cane techniques!

Great presentation & demonstration, Joe, and target student. I'd only add, _use peripheral vision, over looking at where you are striking, to avoid telegraphing your moves._ Maintaining eye contact is one of the most important things you can do in a fight. _Elbows,_ and _Knees_ are a major _Nerve Centers_ too. Struck hard enough, _no amount of adrenaline, or drugs will allow you too keep a hand closed._ Try it on yourself sometime, by striking your _Not-so-Funny Bone._ ;)

Was trained to avoid head when striking with a baton in corrections but if deadly force was necessary to prevent the loss of life it would be justified. How you articulate justification of force is just as important. Answer nothing till you have time to clear your head, get legal counsel.

I’m severely handicapped and I always have my wooden cane, even in my power chair. My instinct is to raise it up like an assault rifle and make jabbing motions to keep dogs or people back. I carry a firearm, but it’s not coming out unless there’s no doubt a life threatening crime is occurring. That pretty much means they get the first move for free. I’m wondering how effective it would be to jab at someone’s head with the rubber tip. I would think it won’t break skin, but it would be very hard to keep moving forward into it. What do you think? I assume two handed, using the grip in my dominant right hand. One handed would look cool but I don’t know how much I could really push someone back one handed while I draw with the other. That’s the goal.

Happy New Year and Thank you for commenting ED! ACSD is not big on jabbing which typically targets your opponent's midline where he can see it coming and always assuming he's bigger, stronger, faster, his reflexes will allow him to intercept jabs directed straight at him especially his head. While there is a place for quick, retracted jabs, ACSD uses primarily a Powershot Template within one's own Guard Zone aimed at limbs to incapacitate. Think of the way a trained boxer fires shots without opening up and telgraphing. As Joe Robaina is fond of pointing out, "If I shut down your limbs (arms in particular) I win every time." - Stay Safe and Keep Canin'!
