Lyrics:
Can't forget his face
What a lonely place
Has he really let us flow
All the time that's lost
What's the final cost?
Will I really get away?
All my life it seems
Just a crazy dream
Reaching for somebody's star
Can't believe it all
Did he really fall?
What to do now I don't know
Something's calling me back
It's a light in the black
Am I ready to go?
I'm coming home
Breathed the air before
Heard the thunder roar
Never knew it was for me
Always looking down
Lost but never found
Eyes to look but not to see
All my life it seems
Just a crazy dream
Reaching for somebody's star
Like an open door
That you've passed before
But you never had the key
Something's calling me back
There's a light in the black
Am I ready to go?
I'm coming home
I'm coming home
Yeah
I'm going back to my home
I'm going home, home, home
Going home, home, home
I'm coming back
Can't forget his face
What a lonely place
Has he really let us flow
All the time that's lost
What's the final cost?
Will I really get away?
All my life it seems, just a crazy dream
Reaching for somebody's star
Can't believe it all
Did he really fall?
What to do now I don't know
Something's calling me back
Like a light in the black
Yes, I'm ready to go
I'm coming home
Home, yeah!
I'm on my way back home
Look to the sky
There in the sky
I see a star

Please take notice of what Brian Hadley has to tell us: Brian Hadley: Lyrics are written from the standpoint of a "slave in Egyptian times", according to lyricist Ronnie James Dio. They relate the story of the Wizard, an astronomer who becomes "obsessed with the idea of flying" and enslaves a vast army of people to build him a tower from which he can take off and fly ] The people hope for the day when their misery comes to an end, building the tower in harsh conditions ("In the heat and rain, with whips and chains; / to see him fly, so many died"). In the end, the wizard climbs to the top of the tower but, instead of flying, falls down and dies: "no sound as he falls instead of rising. / Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand". The next song, "A Light in the Black", continues the story of the people who have lost all purpose after the Wizard's death "until they see the Light in the Dark", according to Dio

There wasn't MTV and normal music stores and the only chance to get an rock album was from someone who was able to travel abroad. I never had a single English class in my life, and today I can understand it and I'm using it mainly because of Dio lyrics. I couldn't sleep for days when I knew that Dio will have live show in my country. He was here four times and now he has memorial in a town near the Black sea. Dickinson does really try to copy Dio's style, it's just a shame he doesn't have the range. Then again, who does? Only Freddie was a better singer than Dio imo.

So many heavy metal bands will emulate this song this way or another. Iron Maden and others. This is the first power metal ballad, with long guitar solo based on a classical harmony. Blackmore is the man.

gimme a break fellars and stop discussing if this is metal or maybe the first speed metal track. It don't matter what it is. Its just what happens when true heavy rock musicians and artists like Ritchie Blackmore, Cozy Powell, Ronnie James Dio, Tony Carey and Jimmy Bain come together with the wise and knowing (and patient) producer Martin Birch. The whole album is brilliant, timeless and lightyears ahead - in superb sound quality. Dio never sounded any better than on "Rising". "Stargazer" actually is untopable and then... the impossible happens: "A light in the Black". You can listen to this number a million times and it still gets better and better and better. So just enjoy, no more no less...

They had one more mindblowing album before the fall from grace. long Live Rock N Roll is just as much a masterpiece as Rising and in many cases, More so. Although I love ‘pop’ rainbow, the Blackmore/Dio/Cozy years is by far superior.
