Love the very first part of this. I have people ask me all the time to teach them to ride all the time and I tell them all the same thing. Whenever you are serious. You are serious when you get over wanting to snuggle with your pretty pony and decide you want to teach your horse something. You have to be prepared to set some expectations and hold your horse to them.

What a wonderful way to spend a half hour of my life on a beautiful Sunday morning! The humor, the skill, the directness and compassion for the horses in correcting past training calmly....was almost in tears of appreciation as this video ended. Thanks for this great video Pat and Deb!

I am so looking forward to part 2. Not sure if it was just my imagination but the second horse sure looks tight in the back end to start and it was interesting to see how it loosened up as you rode it. Just love you.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Love a little old-cowboy wisdom. :) And believe me, I'll be applying it. I did learn one trick elsewhere to fix that trying to lope. You wait till they make the mistake, then shut them down by bending to a stop. That way you're not having to fight them with the reins so much. :) Just thought that was something you might want to know about. Also...if you can give us any uncut video versions I'd adore that, because then I can watch what you do through the whole thing. Not everyone's going to have the patience for that, but I intend to become a true horseman and I am getting a LOT of help from you. On a side note, my Grandpa would have loved you and I have a lot of respect for you both.

Your videos are amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with everyone through here. I appreciate it a lot A big thanks to both of you. On minute 22:10 approx. Pat mentioned a comment related to Dressage and about a king telling soldiers to never back up. I’m serious to know more about it, can you say what king was ? Or where can I find more info about it. Pat also mentioned that Because of all the revolutions Mexico has had they never surrender so they never back up ? So horses in Mexico don’t back up or was he talking about the king ? Thanks

"Puss-gutted" and "stump-headed dink", and that about a horse you seem to like... Too funny Pat, and the waltz was amazing. Well done... (are you still in the land of Oz or headed home??)

When Pat talked about spreading your hand and touching the orbits he was turned away from the camera..., can you explain this again at some point. So much value in this one comment but I was unable to see what he was sharing with us. Thank you so much.

At 16:25, you talk about putting your fingers on the orbit of the eye...it's hard to see what you're doing. Could you elaborate on that technique? Thanks!
@PatnDebPuckett4 жыл бұрын
When Pat centers a horse, he places his hand on the horse’s forehead with his little finger on the orbit of the horse’s left eye and his thumb on the orbit of the horse’s right eye. Hope this clarifies.

I think it's great. You can get away with saying the things you say I've talked like you for. Many years in boy I could be the hardest. Meanest don't bring it across and understanding political correct way, and of course they get mad like you said, they'll cry they'll leave and I'll say you're no good SOB. But at the end of the day the horse is always telling on them. And then shows what you're doing is right and I appreciate that. That's great. Love it. Keep it coming.

So true, they can kill you... I took on "clients" at one time... I told a gal her horse and her was not a good fit, she was unwilling to be the boss.... Long story short she went a group trail ride in Wyoming (the horse had a problem in a crowd) she was flown out by flight for life.... You need this honest communicator in the business...

Im trying to figure out what you mean by, "ride a horse over here, not over here. That means you re only riding half of a horse.". I was trying to see what you were doing but couldnt figure it out.
@julieroberts16044 жыл бұрын
You mean close to the rail?
@PatnDebPuckett4 жыл бұрын
Yes. When you ride on the rail, you use the fence as a crutch. By riding off the rail by 6-8 feet, you have to ride both sides of the horse.
@lindatruitt78584 жыл бұрын
At about 25 in not clear why Pat corrected horse. Please explain. Linda in okc.
@PatnDebPuckett4 жыл бұрын
The horse was dull to Pat’s leg and did not respond to his request to move laterally. So he turned up the heat until the horse yielded. Then he was able to be more subtle with the subsequent cues. We find this is a problem with some people just laying their heel against the horse’s side and hoping to get a response. Also, the owner of this particular horse rides in those rubber heeled lace up riding boots, the kind that look like athletic shoes, and no spurs. So this horse had learned to ignore her.
