Chinese person here, that abalone or "Baoyu" in Cantonese makes my family and chinese people in general go nuts. It's super valuable in China and something you'd give to someone you're trying to impress. I've always avoided it though

CCR did a song about that called "Born on the Baoyu".

This is one of those things that only taste good fresh, I'd recommend trying them in a restruant for a special occasion. They're fairly expensive. Also did you know abalone shells are used in certain higher end fountain pens? It's a material almost identical to pearls but comes in much larger non circle shaped pieces

Yeah I learned about their value watching a few videos while I was editing, people literally go diving in shark infested waters in South Africa for abalone! Crazy! Not worth it in my honest opinion, haha
@Rob82 жыл бұрын
@@SlowJabroni you also no doubt gleaned that they are illegal to harvest from the wild in many places and an extensive abalone black market exists.

Wonder what kind these are last time i dove for abalone they needed to be at least 7 inches across the shell at the longest part for you to keep them...

Weird canned seafood is the best, I try all sorts of stuff. I really think you should revisit surstromming and eat it the way the Swedes do (flat bread, onions, boiled potatoes, sour cream, pepper), I think the results would be far different than in your last video of it. I tried it out earlier this year and I thought it was amazing. The only downside is it being $50 a tin....
@SlowJabroni2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have a running list of stuff I need to revisit, and the STROMM is up there. One day!

Dude you gotta know what aah-bah-loh-nee is. One interesting video is of the African/Chinese poaching trade by Vice. I was really hoping it would be incredible by the can. I was ready to order right away, but then again, some delicacies don't always, uh, translate.... Next up, canned century eggs?.. Chicken feet maybe? Those Flower branned morrocon dines I recall are pretty dang good though.
