ONCE a professional tennis player with a decent global ranking and several tournament wins, Indian born Ashok Amitraj settled in LA and decided to make a new career in films.
He talks to Indian author and journalist Dr Bhuvan Lall in this fireside chat about how he transitioned from tennis to films.
Undergoing a tough initiation into the business - folks there would play tennis with him but didn’t mostly want to know about his film ambitions.
Nevertheless he persevered and he uncovered the Muscles from Brussels as he came to be known movie star - Jean-Claude Van Damme and cast him in ‘Double Impact’… and tells the story about how the star was making a living chauffeuring at the time.
Two top Hollywood executives Hal Sadoff (Dark Castle Entertainment) and William Pfeiffer (Celestial Tiger Entertainment) attend the chat which was hosted at the Bharat Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival 2024.
