For those who don’t want to can: what I do is before freezing a package, I take each piece and roll it up like a fruit roll up then pop each “bacon roll” into a freezer bag. This way, when I need bacon, I can take out however many pieces I want without defrosting an entire package.

I need to can bacon but my super find was today. I found butter for quick sale. I goes out at the end of August. I am freezing it now but will soon can it. I bought 2 cases of that hold 36 pound packages. So I got 72 pounds of butter for 71.28. I can not believe it was 99 cents a pound. It taste delicious.

I recently canned bacon again. After many trials & errors over the years, I found if I precook it, partially. Then did the parchment paper thing, my bacon comes out nice & crispy, right out of the jar. We’ve even had BLT’s without having to fry up the bacon first. Next batch, I’m going to do a few like yours, I’ll use them for bacon bits in my BBQ beans

Hi Bev this is Sue, we buy bacon by the box at a resturant warehouse, and then we cut it in half, and put 8 half piece in a bag and vacuum seal it and freeze it, and just have to take a pack out and defrost either in the fridge or in microwave.

Actually, a pound is 454 grams, not 425, though many products are 450 grams and labelled as a pound. As you noticed, we too find a lot of products have shrunk to 375 grams, about 4/5th of a pound. And as we know, those pounds add up and not in the consumer's favour.

Between storms, trees, and vehicle accidents some areas go out of power up to several times per year. When the power goes out after a storm (wind, snow, ice, trees) it can take 3 days and longer to get power restored and keeping the freezers and refrigerators closed is the key again spoilage. - So canned meats and meal stuff, store bought or elsewise, to last a week or two is a good idea in general.
@debbiealtman45724 жыл бұрын
You can also add the canned bacon in a pot of beans or in a breakfast casserole/ bake. Tfs.

I cook all my bacon to almost done then put in freezer bags. Makes things so easy at breakfast. Just pull it out of freezer put in microwave a couple of minutes and it's ready. I might have to try canning to help with long time storage in case of electric outage. Love your vedios.

Bacon can enhance flavor to foods in a grid down situation. Soup and rice can come to life with a bit of bacon. Well worth the effort, I would say.
@dojodance4 жыл бұрын
You really make things easier. I still freeze mine, but cut it in half right down the middle in the package than freezer bag it and freeze (a few to a bag) than only take out one a week and store it in fridge in container or storage bag, hubby hates 1/2 slices of bacon, but it keeps us honest to not eat a whole lb of bacon lol and none goes to waste.

I have seen videos where people can bacon by wrapping it in parchment paper and folding one end over and the rolling it to fit in the jar and it comes out in full strips and doesn't fall apart. I also found that canning it like you did made it fall apart as well. Oh well. Live and learn. Would be perfect for bacon bits for a salad once fried up!

Interesting process mate, I think Ill stick with the traditional cured rashers and just cut off a slice as and when I need it. Keeps for a very long time (like bacon ever lasts when its in the fridge and men have hangovers) longest was 3 months.

Honey! Thank you thank you thank! I have been wishing for green tomato chow chow for 25 years. The stars aligned and now I have six (count em 6) beautiful jars. I grew up in South Carolina. I have watched 1001 KZbin videos and yours is the TRUTH! I did research as I could not understand how a Canadian woman would know this recipe. Well chow chow is French! And there are people who make it with cabbage (German) and some French but there are those who use green tomatoes and odds and ends veg. I am on Instagram farmer_jones_1880. I have a postage stamp lot and grow tons of veg and fruits. I found my canning swag and that will free up freezer space for more high value meats.
