So appreciated your wonderful tutorial! My daughter, 37, passed away after battling cancer, and her Johnny Apple Sauce Maker came my way. I really didn't have the heart to do applesauce this year, but was given the opportunity to gleen a local orchard, and a good friend got me going on the project that for more than 20 years my daughter and I did together, but the old fashioned way. She had discovered this gadget but I was clueless until watching your video. My apples are clean and I am headed into my kitchen taking a deep breath and the memory of my daughter with me. Time to make applesauce!

Very nice! Our family processes about 700 lbs of apples each year. If you run it through the strainer 2x you’ll get more and then take the scraps and use for vinegar. I must say we are about the same age and it’s so nice to see couples working hard on the farm that are a little older-very encouraging not to mention good for the younger women to see good examples of hard work.

I thought about running the apples through twice, but didn't. I probably will the next time. I've never made vinegar, but I might have to give that a try in the future. Thanks for the idea.

My husband and I had a Johnny Apple seed for years. It was always a team effort. Applesauce is one his favorite snacks, so he was always eager to assist. I am no longer able to stand or walk, but to use the facilities. So no more canning or freezing of any kind. This brought back a lot of Good memories. Chickens are sensitive to the amount of daylight, like poinsettias and people. So they won't start really laying till spring. 🥴

Hi Brenda! Those apples look wonderful-and it’s nice to see how much you enjoy making applesauce with apples from your orchard. I’m just starting out on the canning venture-and I was wondering what size and brand of pots you use? I’m planning on learning to can this summer and looking forward to purchasing some durable equipment. I’ve never thought about using induction burners, but I guess they add more cooking space in a kitchen and allows you to get more done…great idea!! Thanks Mercedes

The stock pots are multi-clad stainless and aluminum. The heavy bottoms help prevent burning/scorching. The water bath canners are Harvest. Yes, the induction burners are WONDERFUL! My husband bought them because they were a lot cheaper than building a canning kitchen. Haha. Best of luck as you begin to can....you'll be addicted quickly. (but it's a wonderful addiction to have.) 😁

What works better than the stock pot is a grape juice steamer! You can just empty the steaming basket and start the next batch while you process the first batch. No stirring the apples needed. They just steam. We pour the processed apple into the large 5 gallon buckets then fill jars then water bath the filled jars. This way there is always apples at each stage. We would usually process about 100 to 150 quarts a year in about two days. We often make crunch to put on top of apple sauce it’s just butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and oats, though I like to add walnuts to mine. Serve it warm on top of the apple sauce or canned peaches!!! So yummy!

I've not heard of this method, but it makes sense. I don't have a steamer, but might have to look into one. Thanks for the tip.

This is great - I use a very old cone shaped sieve strainer in a stand with a wooden apple smoosher ( what is the word ?lol) I am out of sauce and was wondering if Paulus still had bin apples , so now I am inspired . The induction burners - are they specific to canning and large pot use ? I need one while my kitchen is being renovated and am looking for specific suggestions . Thanks
@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 Жыл бұрын
Hi Sue, Yep, Paulus still had lots of bin apples. As for the induction burners, they can be used for anything. They would be a perfect solution for a kitchen that is temporarily out of commission. This is the one I use and I'm very pleased with them. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G9YKPQC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

I've been a KZbin junkie as I recover from surgery. I think I have watched every one of your videos. Really enjoy them. I do have a question. The portable burners you have your canners on...what are they. I think this set up would work in my house, especially once I've recovered.

Good Morning Brenda🖐🏾😁 I received my Johnny Applesauce Maker a few days ago. I was like a kid on Christmas morning opening the box. As soon as I finish up a few canning projects, I will make my applesauce. I’m shooting a video on my preserving projects this week. I was in a bit of a funk yesterday 1-17 because that was the date my Jerry went home to be with GOD🥲 I’m really glad to have multiple projects going on this week. cooking keeps me in my happy place. Have a very Blessed day you two.

Is that a Carolina Coop? I just made apple sauce using the Weston Tomato Press. I cooked the apples for five minutes in my pressure canner. Strained and canned. Next year I will drain the juice off as the sauce was too thin for my liking.
@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 Жыл бұрын
We built the coop from scratch, but did get inspiration from the Carolina Coops...they have some AMAZING coops. . We're really happy with it. It's cheaper to build it from scratch, but I'm sure the Carolina Coops are a lot easier to build. Here's the video about how we built it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYbCqayKbM2tebs&t

These are the canning pots I use: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0075O2Z34/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 These are the induction burners: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G9YKPQC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The induction burners bring the water to a boil a lot faster than my gas range. When it comes time to replace my range I'm leaning toward going with induction. (The only problem is that it wouldn't work with my All American Pressure Canner)

Sorry, I might not have included that. I use whatever amount of lemon juice Ball recipes call for, but only put in enough sugar to ensure that the grandkids will eat it. (which isn't much sugar)
