The new trails are looking good! Great video, thanks for the comprehensive review. 6:23 - I'll never understand these people who go on MTB trails without helmets...

Yeah I am with you on that one. I was actually shocked at how many people weren’t wearing a helmet!. It was at least 1 in every 3 people.

Agreed. I’m heading over the chase tomorrow for the first time in at least 2 years with a colleague who wants to get into biking, point blank refused to go with him until he gets a lid. Dusted off my Tomac, lubed it up but haven’t properly ridden in a long long time… Should be interesting, wish me luck.

I mountain bike on Cannock chase way before the trails, or the cycle shop and the cafe was run by the forestry commission and car parking was a £30 yearly pass. The cycling was so much better, more remote and enjoyable The best thing about the current trails is it keeps most cyclists to specific areas, so those that really know Cannock chase can enjoy the really good areas with less cyclists and walkers.
@bikeandbeyond

You are right there. I spend most of my time on the un marked parts of the chase. So much better to be in the more remote parts than it is surrounded by people.

@@bikeandbeyond I believe this was the true reason to provide cycle trails. Not to provide an activity for cyclists but because cyclists were increasing and walkers and vocal NIMBYS were complaining. To keep cyclists to specific areas / routes on the case and away from everywhere else and it’s worked so well it’s also bringing in huge revenue too Just look at the development of the car park on birches valley I remember when the cafe was one hut and two old lady’s making tea with a tiny car park The trails were built to keep those complaining about cyclists happy but look what’s come out of it

Brilliant video! I rode Perry's for the first time yesterday (First time on a bike in 20 years as well!!) was a great way for my friends to get me into the sport and I loved it! made it a lap and a half before my legs finally gave out and I had to call it a day but will 100% be going back to ride this trail again and when my confidence is a little better take on some of the easier Dog sections!

I went yesterday and was disappointed with the distance. The blue route at Sherwood pines is 7.5 miles and they have added extra berms at the beginning. I appreciate that pines is a bit more XC than anything else but Cannock could be longer.

The random stone slabs on the blue trail catch quite a few people out, i've seen quite a few accidents as a result of novice riders hitting them. As someone who rides a hardtail i'm no fan of them either.

Awesome video. My brother and I were riding the same trails on the Bank Holiday Friday morning. Enjoyed the ride. What happened to the rendering on this video? Artifacts everywhere. KZbin compression?
@bikeandbeyond
@bikeandbeyond 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the trail is great fun. Thanks for highlighting the rendering issue. Sometimes there are artefacts when the video is live on KZbin but perhaps hasn’t fully processed in HD yet. It should be 1080p

Returning to MTB with a hardtail after many years. Would be grateful for your feedback on knee pads - I see you referenced a couple in the description, I've been looking at many. Horses for courses I know, but is something like the Fox Enduro D3O enough for a place like Cannock Chase? Is something like the 7idp Sam Hill a good all-rounder? Likewise, is something like an IXS Carve overkill? The slenderness of pads now with non-Newtonian materials is preventing me from knowing what to do! On the one hand, great that they're thinner, lighter etc. On the other, you can't plan how hard to fall, so to some degree you're either protected or you're not. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated
@bikeandbeyond
@bikeandbeyond 2 жыл бұрын
I find that something like my fox D3O or the Sam Hill are great. Perfect for somewhere like Cannock. If you go too big (like my 7IDP flex that I link in the description) you may find them a bit tough to peddle in for a full days ride. I have crashed in my Fox D3O before and they provided a great amount of protection. I only tend to use my big pads if I am at a downhill park or riding jumps.
@dmtb4455
@dmtb4455 2 жыл бұрын
@@bikeandbeyond really appreciate the quick response. A thumbs up and a subscribe just for that :) Hmmm... I'll have to take a look at the enduro D3O in that case. I'm sure it's partially an old mentality but I look at perhaps even the Fox Launch or the Endura MT500 hardshell over the Enduro D30 and I suppose they LOOK more like what I'm used to. But this is where I need to be realistic and honest with myself and perhaps have a look at the enduro D3O and just see if that really is enough for where I'm at right now. I'm sure it's probably better than the best pads I had 20 years ago. Guess it's the balance between not bogging myself down but also enjoying the confidence inspiring feeling of knowing you're covered.

It will depend on your budget. Full suspension bikes are great and all but you can easily do these on a hardtail.
