Cannon Fodder is an action shoot 'em up game developed by Sensible Software and published by Virgin Interactive Entertainment for the Amiga in 1993. Virgin ported the game to home computer systems MS-DOS, the Atari ST and the Archimedes, and the consoles Jaguar, Mega Drive, SNES and 3DO. The game is military-themed and based on shooting action with squad-based tactics. The player directs troops through numerous missions, battling enemy infantry, vehicles and installations.
Cannon Fodder has a darkly humorous tone which commentators variously praised and condemned. Its creators intended it to convey an anti-war message, which some reviewers recognised, but the Daily Star and a number of public figures derided the game. In other respects, reviewers highly praised the game, which widely achieved scores of over 90% in Amiga magazines. Amiga Action awarded it an unprecedented score, calling it the best game of the year.

The FMVs are hilarious, and in some way a totally unnecessary gimmnick. Quite disappointed by the 3DO version, it looks bland. CD 32 in game looks good. So my ranking: 1. Jaguar 2. CD32 3. SNES/MD 4. 3DO

Well IMO its kinda hard to say which is better just by a side by side comparison there's difference between them all, there's game play, graphics, speed of the game and probably other stuff not coming to me at the moment. The FMV's were not needed, but they were to those who had FMV cards. and if you didn't have it you didn't get them. i personally didn't like the cartoony style intros on the 3DO and the Jaguar looked stupid but that's just me lol. for my its the CD32 :)

@@atarijaguarsgarage8873 Was there a mouse for Jaguar or CD32? The Snes version works with the Super Nintendo mouse ( or your pc mouse if you decide to emulate it).

Nice, the Amiga CD32 version has Super Mario in it, but the Nintendo ports don't.

3DO and the Amiga CD32 are awesome but i would have to pick the 3DO version as the best version.

For me the CD32 is the best - most faithful to the original Amiga 500 version with all the sound effects included in game. The Jaguar probably looks best. A special mention must go to the Mega Drive version, I think it got an excellent port of this game and certainly better than the SNES.

I wonder why they didn't attempt to put all the sounds into the Genesis/Megadrive or Snes versions. Can't see it being a memory issue?

I have to agree. The Mega Drive version appears better than the SNES version. The lower resolution on the SNES has resulted in the image being partially cropped and the recruitment screen is so slow.

The MD/Genesis and SNES versions are PAINFUL on the ears after hearing the 3DO and CD32 versions. And the SNES is incredibly slow on the pre-screen where the soldiers come around the mountain.
