Nice ! with this video I repaired a jammed shifter (one pawl we see at 10:57 was stuck by rust) ! Thank you so much ! Few remarks though. 7:52 - This main shaft is secured by a pointy pressure screw. This tiny screw (1mm Hex) is located deep down the hole where you secure the side cover 17:59. Then the main axle is free to slide out. Not need to do this move at 8:12 11:26 - There is also this centering pin which is locating the 1st block in place. The pin goes into a hole in the white plastic PCB support. 14:26 - It has been easier for me to place the trust bearing on the other part we see at 14:43 as it was well centered then. 14:58 - Mention we have to place the pawls under tension when reinstalling. We see you do it, yes. But a commentary would have help. 17:03 - I think I forgot to reattach a spring helping the brake lever return movement. I'll have to remove it again.

I have a similar 105 10 speed with the problem you described at around 16 40 mark, Shifting down . I opened it up and I can see the problem, the down shifter doesn't stay down. After shifting up if I push the whole mechanism down it will work if I don't push it down it wont shift down. I need to tighten the mechanism but I don't see any screws

I got a used ST-6700 right shifter, because I couldn't find a replacement spring. Works good, but the grease looked worn, and dirty. I heavily degreased with White Lightning, air compressor dried, then sprayed TriFlow. I think taking it apart would weaken the existing springs. I'm considering cleaning it again, and getting a mini grease gun to replace the TriFlow. I won't be taking it apart. One thing I noticed with my broken shifter, and my new/used shifter... when shifting to the larger cogs, the mechanism inside seems to wobble a bit. It looks janky. I'm not sure if new ones are like that, or if it's a wear issue. This does instill confidence, and I surmise that this unnatural movement could be causing the return spring to eventually break.

Do you work for Shimano? That is really complicated. My shifter on my second bike stopped working about 8 years ago. I started to take it apart but couldn’t fix it. Hopefully, I can find the parts and try again. Wish I saw this back then. I think I miss my vintage down tube shifters. I could actually shift faster with those things. Haha. Good job.

I end up here cause my almost brand new ( only 500km ) STI 4700 Tiagra whose small circular spring has decided to dislodge its end from its small hole making it so that the pawls no longer want to brake in each notch of the ratchet. In the upside down position which allows me to remove the bigger cover which is below the rubber hood , the pawl engage just by gravity but we can clearly see that he is loose and that nothing applies pressure to him so that he stays in the notches.it's so small to see that I can't even tell if the end of the spring is broken and if it is possible to reinsert it in its stop hole. Real Swiss watchmaker job that you can do ....Tabarnak long live bar-end shifters

Nice video! I found that circlip extremely annoying to remove hahaha Oh, and after disassembling, then cleaning, I discovered that the reason my shifter had stopped working was that the plastic hole which houses the biggest tension spring broke in half, so there's nothing to insert it into :( Also explained why the end of the spring was warped and bent....

Your lighting is better here than in the other similar video on YT. Your major mistake was taking that spring off the plastic right away (it should be removed later from the metal part, and left on the plastic housing) and fully removing the pin and having the guts spill out. That helps no one understand what’s going on. You should of done like the other video, and gradually pulled the pin down, while sliding out each piece individually as it sits in the stack.
