Man, Sram is really ok but XTR is so smooth. XTR chain is like snake in the jungle.

The most important part imo is the fact that the force passed into the fork and down to the QR while breaking using disc breaks. It gradually can work itself loose. Doesn't uappen with mechanical breaks. For MTB, thru is necessary imo. Especially for more advanced riding.

Frame size is measured by the length of a bike's seat tube-from the top of the seat tube to the center of the bottom bracket. Not the top tube! June 1, 2024

I agree with everything except for the mid cable housing. Given that it is fixed at both ends it should be a smooth curve. Yours has three curves.

I agree, more cable outer = tighter radius = more friction.

@@space.youtube With the rear section behind the rear derailleur , a modest amount of sheathing should be used .
@space.youtube20 сағат бұрын
@@robertmcfadyen9156 The time stamp you provided is for the section of cable outer that transitions from under the top tube to the drive side seat stay. "more cable outer = tighter radius = more friction" refers to that piece of cable outer. Cable outers that are routed with tight radii produce more cable friction. As far as the small piece of cable outer that runs from the chain stay to the rear derailleur barrel adjuster, he is correct. He uses a longer section to increase the radius of the bend to reduce cable friction. Having said that, there are trade offs. If I'm building a lightweight bike I'll cut cables and outers as short as is practical. Clearly reliability is more important than weight savings on the bike he's working on.

what is the correct (environmentally conscious) way to dispose of oil contaminated dirt that falls off my drivetrain? Over the course of a year, my family has 11 bikes, we ride trails through mud and Ive collect two 5 gallon buckets of contaminated soil.

Tip: before you cut an outer cable, put a piece of an old inner cable into the outer. That way, the outer cable won't deform as much.

Did you press the bearing cups yourself, I’m going to do a bearing press with the lighter kp197/srm cup and bearing; same as yours I believe Cannondale says with grease and in another place I caw with with a plastic filler like loctite. Did you press yours? If so, what did you use dry, grease, or something else? Have you had any creaking problems. I didn’t have any problems using grease on my bottom bracket pressfit on my F-29, not a single creaking sound. But that was steel to aluminum. Mine is the same 83mm PF30A as yours my first aluminum into carbon press, and I want to do it right the first time.

Should have degreased the brake rotor with the wheel still off the bike - rotating it while in the caliper might likely contaminate the brake pads already enough to make them unusable

omg stop being lazy and just take your wheel off, take off your cassette off, unscrew a jockey wheel so you can take your chain off without breaking it and soak them all in de-greaser and rinse it offwith water and reinstall it all lol

What a convoluted unnecessary waste by bad design. I've just bled motorbike brakes via a small reservoir on the lever. Quick,easy and all it cost was a length of pipe and brake fluid. MTB hydraulic disc brake bleeding costs are a rip off

THANK YOU! I came here to learn what tools I'd need to maintain my own bikes. Since I service my motorcycle myself, I already have many of these tools. Even if one doesn't start a bicycle servicing business, working on bikes can save you, the rider, a ton of money by doing it yourself; plus, you don't have the inconvenience of having to transport a bike to or from the shop.
